I don't think this is actually far cry 2, some say it's a Quest 3D demo.

It's confirmed fake. The fake also required .NET 2.0 installed to run the fake installer.
The original program is available here http://download.quest3d.com/Demos/Quest3D_Demo_AzureTemple.exe
With wine-1.1.7, geforce 8,177.80. Both the fake and the real, I see a small overlay but the rest is black and with OffscreenRenderingMode set to fbo, I see the same as in the original reported screenshots.

So this bug is currently blocked by bug 22918. Installing directx9 with winetricks will work around it, but the demo only shows a blank screen and the terminal is spammed with fixme:d3d:state_wrap (WINED3DRS_WRAP0) Texture wrapping not yet supported

I tested the demo with Wine 1.5.4.
Quest3D_Demo_AzureTemple.exe md5sum: 060c599a2e8e262892fb1fc7f6b63128
First the demo crashes with
wine: Call from 0x7b839b32 to unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXComputeTangentFrameEx, aborting
After overriding d3dx9_36 to native the game still crashes, now with
wine: Call from 0x7bc4a8e0 to unimplemented function d3dx9_25.dll.D3DXMatrixMultiply, aborting
After 'winetricks d3dx9' the demo starts and runs fine without problems. For completeness, I could reproduce the originally reported problem with older Wine versions (1.1.35...1.3.25). I got the same odd colours as can be seen in comment #2 and comment #3. Wine 1.3.30 and newer already render the screen correctly on my system.
Tested with a Nvidia gfx card + binary driver 295.49.
