It happens at least for the MS Office suites 2003 and 2007.
After opening a file, it's modified time are update, even when you don't save
any change. Also, many excel files gets its size duplicated again an again
after every try to open them.

That's what the MS Office apps are doing, not Wine. You can check that under
Windows.

Checked with office over native XP, it keeps the original modification date of
the files.

Wine version is 1.1.42
