Hello everyone,

I downloaded IrfanView in its own prefix with the following:

sha256sum iview462_x64_setup.exe 
d9d4c5f3120a9420e2dbaf0ee8931556e161787fbc4297d5fb4e4c7616fdd668 
iview462_x64_setup.exe

and it installs and seems to run just fine.

Steps to reproduce
- Start IrfanView
- Start Gimp (Linux-native)
- Open an Image in Gimp
- Copy the image from Gimp into IrfanView
- Paste it into IrfanView

Expected result: Image should show in IrfanView

Actual result: Black screen though dimension of the image are shown at the
bottom of the application.

Console output is attached.

Here this works fine with native Mozilla Firefox and Ristretto Image Viewer.

Are you sure Gimp uses the clipboard properly? Can you past the clipboard to
other native Linux applications?

Thanks for getting back to me. I started up Gimp which is on Version 2.10.30,
openedup an image and copied it into LibreOffice which works fine.

Just came across the black screen bug as well using Wine 8.0.1.

This seems some kind of regression:
I just updated IrfanView from 4.57 to 4.62.
In 4.62 it results in a black screen, no matter if the clipboard content comes
from GIMP or 'xfce4-screenshooter -c -f'.
Going back to 4.57 and pasting an image from the clipboard works fine as
always.

AFAIK IrfanView doesn't provide an official archive for older versions, but
4.57 is still available via sites that archive older versions.

Thanks to Irfan Skiljan, the author of IrfanView, the problems inside Wine was
found:

In 4.62 IrfanView introduced a new option, which is enabled by default:
Options -> Properties/Settings -> Viewing
-> Apply PNG/TIF/TGA/DDS/EPS/RAW (or Edit->Paste) alpha transparent color

This combines a clipboard pasted 32BPP image coming with an Alpha channel with
the window color.

If this option is disabled, pasting works.

Irfan Skiljan concluded that there must be a bug in Wine with the clipboard
handling of bitmaps with Alpha channels.

Addendum by the IrfanView author:
"Wine provides a 32BPP clipboard, but fills the alpha channel with zeros.
 It would be better to provide only 24BPP or fill the alpha channel correctly."

Since the status hasn't changed to at least "CONFIRMED":
is this bug still being actively watched by Artem as super maintainer for
IrfanView or other dev team members?
Just wondering, because he's not on the CC list for the bug despite posting a
comment in the past

Wine is open source but it's a lot more bespoke commercial software which means
Wine developers are mostly working on things which are relevant for Codeweavers
commercial customers. If commercial customers voice their concerns about this
bug it's more likely to be fixed.

Wine has literally thousands of bugs and it's unreasonable to believe that this
particular one is more important than others.

If you're extremely interested in this bug being resolved ASAP, you could start
a bounty.
