Does it happen with this demo http://www.jeuxvideo.com/telecharger/jeux-et-demos/00005096-splinter-cell-pc...
In a word: yes! Looks the same, only smaller (default screen size is probably 640x480).
I guess I need to give some system details:
Arch Linux
wine 1.5.3 ATI (Radeon) drivers, HD 6950 graphics card lib32-mesa 7.11.2-1 (newer versions crash)
Game demo installed in a fresh WINEPREFIX and run in a virtual desktop (but I have previously tried full screen with the same result).
The only output from wine is:
fixme:process:GetProcessWorkingSetSize (0xffffffff,0x33e2c4,0x33e2c0): stub fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33c9f4,0x00000000), stub! fixme:d3d:wined3d_swapchain_set_gamma_ramp Ignoring flags 0x1. fixme:d3d:wined3d_swapchain_set_gamma_ramp Ignoring flags 0x1. fixme:d3d:wined3d_swapchain_set_gamma_ramp Ignoring flags 0x1. fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8. fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.

--- Comment #3 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr 2012-05-03 13:37:52 CDT --- For me, menu is OK.
Gaming suffers of many graphic bugs, but it is unrelated to this bug.

Do you also have libtxc_dxtn installed? The screenshot looks like you may be missing s3tc support.

Oh dear God. This looks like a horrendous can of worms. I'm starting by looking at http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/S3TC, and it seems we're looking at patent encumberance. Of course, this report is going to be closed as Invalid.
I genuinely despair at the state of software today.
For what it's worth, I attach a screenshot with lib32-libtxc_dxtn-1.0.1-1 installed, built from AUR (in other words, not maintained in any realistic sense). It's an improvement ... of sorts.

--- Comment #9 from Michael Abbott michael@araneidae.co.uk 2012-06-06 11:49:52 CDT --- Ok. Looks like a more recent version of lib32-libtxc_dxtn works for me. Sorry about the noise.
Still got glare showing through, but that's another story altogether...
I've marked this as invalid, though it would be really nice to have some mechanism for determining which libraries are missing for Wine to work properly!
