Summary: Wine Crash in Baldurs Gate I when more than 1 character in team Product: Wine Version: 1.1.20 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: riklaunim@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=20900) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20900) Crash log
The game will crash (wine) when you try to go to a building (change location) and you have more than one (yourself) character in team. Walking solo doesn't crash wine. It crashes on 1.1.20, 19 and quickcheck reveals that on 1.1.8 it crashes too (but no clean .wine). BG II isn't affected. I used BG I full DVD Polish edition (with the tales of the sword coast, and it doesn't checks for DVD/CD).

--- Comment #1 from Dawid Hanak nugrud@gmail.com 2009-05-04 15:35:12 --- Doesn't happen to me in 1.9.20 and I have it installed from Ekstraklasyka Gold 1 DVD edition. Maybe you have a corrupted installation, try reinstalling.

--- Comment #2 from Piotr riklaunim@gmail.com 2009-05-04 18:26:01 --- I've reinstalled it few times with no results. I'll try to digg out some older BG 1 edition and compare. AFAIK I didn't used this newer DVD earlyer.

--- Comment #3 from Piotr riklaunim@gmail.com 2009-05-04 18:42:30 --- It looks like the newer BG 1 DVD install which crashes has a bit different startup/run system in the main exe file. The game is managed by BGMain2.exe
piotr 14449 69.2 2.0 3728972 41332 pts/2 RLl 01:38 0:04 BGMain2.exe
I can't compare it right now to older release but I'ts changed since previous released (like the graphics of startup menu).

--- Comment #4 from Dawid Hanak nugrud@gmail.com 2009-05-05 02:42:40 --- I'm not sure if we use the same edition, I have the most recent "SAGA Baldur's Gate 1DVD eXtra Klasyka Gier Komputerowych Gold" with Sarevok on front cover and some mods on DVD, and Baldur.exe launcher (startup menu? md5: c6e0765300c3e9410c8be3ed2ac5397c) uses this graphics:
http://img386.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newbaldurexe.jpg
But I tend to start the game running BGMain2.exe directly (md5: e9c5b0853fffb9122f210dce18da0253)
And so yesterday I started new game, joined Imoen, Xzar and Montaron. Went to Beregost and tried to enter dozens of homes and inns and I couldn't reproduce your wine crash.
I still have a 6CD edition in my collection, and I could have replaced dvd BGMain2.exe with the cd one if I was trying widescreen mod (as described here: http://bg2.gram.pl/index.php?file=article&id=410), I surely did it in bg2, but I'm not really sure if I used the mod in bg1 directory because I still have it in 640x480 resolution. Or just tell me the your result of 'md5sum BGMain2.exe' command. Mine is:

--- Comment #5 from Piotr riklaunim@gmail.com 2009-05-05 03:14:04 --- The same thing :)

--- Comment #6 from Dawid Hanak nugrud@gmail.com 2009-05-05 03:23:23 --- Well, so you could make md5sum for whole baldur directory and send me to compare it file by file ;)
Besides the version of the game (read from ingame options screen) is v.1.3.5521 and so it seems the packagers of 1dvd edition applied the infamous 'TOTSC DirectX 8+' patch, whereas the most advised by community version to use is 5512.

--- Comment #7 from Piotr riklaunim@gmail.com 2009-05-05 03:28:38 --- I've traced the problem. If you join a charcter ingame - it works. If you cluaconsole NPC and join him - moving to locations will crash the game as reported and saving game will hang with this:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e48ae0c "main.c: ddraw_cs" wait timed out in thread 001c, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec)

--- Comment #8 from Dawid Hanak nugrud@gmail.com 2009-05-09 05:43:33 --- OK, I can confirm crashing game on area changing with cluaconsoled npcs in team in 1.1.20 and 1.1.21, but I'm not sure if the very same game edition we use do not crash in windows in the same situation.

--- Comment #9 from Dawid Hanak nugrud@gmail.com 2009-06-20 05:27:45 --- Still crashing in 1.1.24

--- Comment #10 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-06-04 15:43:51 --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 11 months. Is this still an issue in current (1.2-rc2 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #11 from Piotr riklaunim@gmail.com 2010-06-06 09:59:47 --- It works nicely for all recent wine versions. BG 1 and 2 using DVD versions. Better than Windows ;)
