In SPSS 15, you must activate your license using a licence authorization wizard (from help menu). When I select "I obtained a license from SPSS" and click "Next", there is an error message with code 30200 (from SPSS) saying that disk ID is missing. Nothing seems to happen in the Log (included below).
Using Wine 0.9.46 in Ubuntu 7.04 and the French version of SPSS 15.

--- Comment #4 from Arnout Engelen winehq@bzzt.net 2009-08-09 07:02:47 --- This is a configuration issue.
Open winecfg (Applications->Wine->Configure Wine), go to 'drives', select a disk, choose 'Show Advanced', check 'Manually Assign' and insert some values for the disk label and serial of the disk. Now you should be good to go.
I guess if you want to SPSS both on Windows and under Wine, you should make sure the disk information matches. You can find the serial number with 'dir /p' on windows. In winecfg, omit the hyphen ('-').
After this, we still had trouble getting the license: the communication with the server seemed fine, but resulted in an 'Error

This might not have been due to Wine though.
