Very simple to recreate:
rm -rf ~/.wine winetricks -q firefox3 flash wine "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" http://www.adobe.com/products/air/showcase/
Firefox freezes and has to be killed.
Tried going back to Wine 1.2-rc1 when I'm pretty sure it worked but the result is the same.
Same when booting into Linux directly and when running a VM.
Ubuntu Lucid 64 Athlon II X4 Nvidia Geforce 7025
Not sure where the problem may lay.

Maybe you should go back further. I'm pretty sure as well that this worked in earlier wine versions

The symptoms sound like bug 23442, which was eventually closed as a duplicate of bug 17273. That bug only affects Firefox 3.6.6 and later, and would explain why you thought it used to work in older Wine.
Firefox 3.5.6 in Wine 1.3.9 has no problem with the Adobe web page cited.
