With 1.1.0, Warcraft II is unable to connect to Battle.net for multiplayer, and
gives an error that reads: "Battle.net was unable to properly identify your
application version." This bug is different from #13815 in that it still
happens when I'm running metacity instead of compiz.

I get the same exact message when trying to go on battle.net with Starcraft
1.15.2, also using metacity window manager, wine 1.1.0, ubuntu 8.04.

Did it used to work with an earlier version of Wine? If so, run a regression

Not that I know of. I have tested a occasionally the last months and I have
never been able to connect to battle.net.

I can confirm this bug with Starcraft 1.15.2 and wine 1 and 1.1.1
Reinstalling, switching between compiz and metacity, and running wine in a
virtual desktop, as well as a combination of the last two have all not worked.

spoke too soon.  uninstalling, installing with wine 1.1.1 and then patching,
and then switching to metacity fixed problem.  (virtual desktop unnecessary)

I tried again today with Wine 1.1.2 and a new installation of Warcraft II BNE
by removing my ~/.wine directory and installing the game again. I tried to run
both with and without a virtual desktop, under metacity and the problem is
still there.

The log was identical to my initial post.
