Summary: BBC iPlayer Desktop fails to download Adobe AIR Product: Wine Version: 1.1.25 Platform: PC URL: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/install/ OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download, Installer Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: kennybobs@o2.co.uk
Created an attachment (id=22299) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=22299) Wine 1.1.25 +cryptasn +wintrust
The BBC iPlayer tries to download Adobe AIR through Flash. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/install/
Flash appears to successfully download the file, but reports it unsuccessful.
Installing AIR beforehand makes no difference. http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/win/download/1.5/AdobeAIRInstaller.exe
A similar problem was related to wintrust, but I can not say that this is the problem. Tried a +cryptasn,+wintrust trace, only +cryptasn gives any output (attached).

--- Comment #1 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-07-09 12:31:01 --- .... "winetricks firefox3 flash" needed to get this far.

--- Comment #2 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-07-09 12:44:48 --- Same under Wine's iexplore, Firefox is not necessary.

--- Comment #3 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2009-07-09 19:43:54 --- I get an error message that it's not possible to download it outside the UK. Know a workaround?

--- Comment #4 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2009-07-09 19:50:19 --- Also, it'd be nicer not to provide a particular debug channel unless it's asked for. At first glance, this looks rather more relevant to the problem than the cryptasn stuff (which apparently succeeded):
fixme:file:MoveFileWithProgressW MOVEFILE_WRITE_THROUGH unimplemented

--- Comment #5 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-07-10 04:36:08 --- As I said, nothing useful in the standard console output. The fixme only appears during Firefox install, it doesn't appear with iexplore, and as I also said, this appears similar to another problem. A standard console output is completely useless, I don't need anybody to tell me that!
OK, no workaround for iPlayer specifically, however: 1. Install Flash and Firefox. 2. wine "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" http://www.adobe.com/products/air/showcase/ 3. Pick something (I tried eBay).
For reasons unknown this page doesn't load at all with iexplore, so Firefox is needed at this point. Same result.

--- Comment #7 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2012-09-08 11:35:41 CDT --- The AIR showcase seems to have vanished from Adobe's site.
The iPlayer requires Flash 11.
AIR downloads and starts the installer in wine-1.5.12-157-gbdf9a9f. It seems to complete but reports that it has failed, multiple times.
Nonetheless, this bug is either fixed, or something has changed in Flash 11 and there is no way to test with Flash 10.
Fixed.
