Not sure how Wine would cause that.
http://forums.bigfishgames.com/posts/list/101782.page suggests installing Shockwave Player 8.5 may have helped a different game with that error.
I see there's a free trial for that game, adding url.

--- Comment #4 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2011-11-30 23:34:47 CST --- I reproduced it as follows: rm -rf ~/.wine winetricks ie8 (ie7 wasn't enough) wget http://www.bigfishgames.com/download-games/2230/mystery-case-files-madame-fa... mv download.html setup.exe ~/wine-git/wine setup.exe Then use the manager to download and install cd ~/".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Mystery Case Files - Madame Fate" ~/wine-git/wine Madame\ Fate.exe
Feels kinda like copy protection...

--- Comment #5 from Carlos Salvador Pérez Salgado carlosalvatore@gmail.com 2011-12-01 18:24:25 CST --- I wrote a guide to install bigfish game manager and the games at wine appdb, but someone edit them... I don't know why they do things like that. If the program works better with a new version, one should leave the other ways as an archive entry... I'm using wine 1.3.33 built from source in gentoo linux.

--- Comment #7 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
works fine here.
* Bigfish games stub downloader -> Bigfish Game Manager * Bigfish Game Manager download -> downloads actual game, installs, activates * running the actual game
If the DRM scheme (Armadillo 4.x) was already used in the version years ago when this bug was report created then it's certainly a dupe.
