Bug #: 32074 Summary: 1by1 Player: music time indicators too fast Product: Wine Version: 1.5.16 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk Classification: Unclassified
When playing mp3 files in 1by1 Player via Wine, the song time at the bottom is going faster than playback. Also the song progress slider at the top is going faster than playback.
This bug has only occurred recently i.e. past few weeks, since I always get the latest development Wine releases with the Ubuntu updates.
To reproduce: download 1by1 Player: http://mpesch3.de1.cc/1by1.html and use it to play some mp3 files. You will notice that the song time counter is going too fast, but the songs play at normal speed.

--- Comment #1 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2013-04-10 17:09:44 CDT --- When the same mp3 files are played using VLC, the track time progresses normally. In 1by1 Player the track time is going way too fast! That said, the tracks play normally.
Still occurring with Wine 1.5.27 and 1by1 Player.

This screenshot illustrates this bug.
The time indicators at the bottom will count too fast. The song is still playing (as shown by the VU bars on the left), despite the elapsed time showing the song has finished.
NOTE that I've blanked the other files and directories (folders) for privacy and to avoid image clutter.

If it's a regression, a regression test would help: http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting
Though your terminal output indicates you're using Pulseaudio, which may be related. Does it make any difference if you use pasuspender/plain alsa?

I don't understand how to do that regression test. I've tried but it's too technical for me and I don't want to get it wrong and make life harder for the kind people who work on Wine.
How do I change the sound method from PuleseAudio? I'm certain that Ubuntu will not let you remove PulseAudio without breaking the sound or certain apps like Skype.
Sorry I can't do much more than take time to report bugs, as an end user of Wine and Ubuntu.

--- Comment #7 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2013-08-01 19:07:18 CDT --- The problem isn't that you're using PulseAudio per se, it's that you are using the unofficial winepulse driver. Unfortunately, unlike Fedora, which packages the driver separately so it can be easily uninstalled, Ubuntu has made it impossible for users of its Wine packages to remove the winepulse driver.
I downloaded the app, and can confirm the problem in plain Wine. I also did a quick test in 1.4, since I had that already built, and the problem is there, too, so if this is a regression, it is much older than the "few weeks" before 1.5.16 that you originally reported.
I'm changing the severity to trivial; as you say, the tracks play normally.

--- Comment #8 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2013-08-03 09:58:41 CDT --- This bug seems to be triggered when playing mp3's in a directory with a large number of mp3 files; I have 141 mp3 files. In another directory with just 10 mp3 files, this bug does not occur.
I believe I'm right in calling this a "regression" because this bug did not appear in older versions of Wine? Unfortunately I don't know which version of Wine triggered this bug.

You need to figure that out to prove this is a regression. As I told you on the forum, you should be able to identify the version by testing old packages in the Ubuntu archives. If you can give me the last "good" version, I can run the regression test for you.

--- Comment #10 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2013-08-03 11:59:52 CDT --- I can't confirm your theory about the number of files in a directory triggering this. I just tested in a directory with only 3 files in it, and the bug still occurred.
There may be something different about the encoding of the files where you didn't see this bug.

I agree. It may be the encoding of mp3 files which trigger this bug? The 10 mp3 files were "ripped", compared to the other mp3's which were not ripped. But I do remember 1by1 player not having this bug at all (possibly using an older version of 1by1 Player?). Not sure if it's a Wine regression or not?
I tried installing the older versions of Wine, but every time it showed an error message saying "dependency is not satisfiable".

Adding stable download for version 1.77, which was released October 25th 2012. This should match the version used in the OP. The download also matches the md5 posted on the official website.
