Summary: MIME types still added even if winemenubuilder is disabled Product: Wine Version: 1.1.32 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download, source Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: programs AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: austinenglish@gmail.com
Spawned from bug 19182. Setting WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winemenubuilder.exe=d disables it, and .desktop files are no longer made. MIME types are still integrated, so I get, e.g., open MPEG files with Windows Media Player after installing wmp with winetricks.

--- Comment #1 from Damjan Jovanovic damjan.jov@gmail.com 2009-11-08 02:44:36 --- Unlike .desktop files, which are created as the application makes .lnk files, MIME types are created from wineboot by launching winemenubuilder.exe from the registry's RunServices key, see tools/wine.inf.in.
Does it still happen if you first disable winemenubuilder.exe in winecfg?

Yes.

--- Comment #3 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-11-08 07:00:58 --- Though I don't do that. The reason I disable MIME integration is because I install a ton of stuff daily (winetrickstest runs every winetricks verb), and I don't want a ton of this stuff installed. I disable winemenubuilder.exe in ~/.bashrc, and wine should respect that.

--- Comment #4 from diafero@arcor.de 2010-03-15 02:29:09 --- This bug is still present in current git: Even though I added 'WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winmenubuilder.exe=d' to my environment, I still occasionally get these wine mime types. As a result, KDE wants to open *.inf files (and some more) with wine instead of Kate, which is *really* annoying. I am cleaning the packages folder and running "update-mime-database" about every week or two (maybe there is a relation to the wine releases). I think I could write a script doing that automatically, but that's not really a solution.

Is opening 'Internet Explorer' as default image browser with the error popup 'DDE failure' is expected behavior? Why you can't disable it by default? What's worse, GNOME settings 'Remember this application for "xxx image" files' are ignored, if you choose different application.

--- Comment #6 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2010-11-12 12:52:31 CST --- Disabling it should work just fine. Most likely the problem is that winetricks redefines WINEDLLOVERRIDES in some cases. That's a winetricks bug.

What's the real status of this bug apart 'NEW'. Devs can't reproduce it, nobody wants to fix it, workaround is the permament fix, too difficult, can't find how to fix it, etc?

Confirming the bug with wine-1.5.9. I'm using only wine, not winetricks.
$ env | grep DLL WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winemenubuilder.exe=d

Random things are regularly installed into ~/.local/share while using wine.
What "random things," and what, exactly, are you running when it happens?
Please provide step-by-step instructions that will reliably reproduce the problem in plain Wine.
