Summary: eve online voice chat crappy audio Product: Wine Version: 1.1.25 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: pht@spatium.org
whenever i try the echo test in eve voice i hear myself severely distorted as if parts of the speech haven't made it through or as if the game had problems with continuous sound recording. works fine on same hw in windows x64.
some specs: - amd radeon4850 and proprietary driver v9.6 - quad core phenom with 4G ram (plenty of it free) - 64-bit kernel 2.6.28.10 with preemption off (tried it both/all three ways) - xorg server 1.6.1 - wine itself runs inside a chrooted 32bit arch linux (stock packages) - wine runs in a virtual desktop mode

I can confirm this at least for 1.1.24. And it's not just the echo test. I tested with live EVE players too.
It's kind of a problem for my corporation/alliance since we use voice chat a lot to coordinate our missions.

--- Comment #3 from Michal Svoboda pht@spatium.org 2009-07-15 11:55:55 --- I'd like to ask other people experiencing this bug to confirm that their wine process (exefile.exe) eats nearly 100% CPU. If that is the case, then this bug might be direct consequence of bug 19202.

I can confirm that each time I tested I had the 100% cpu usage issue.
I can sometimes get EVE to run with a lower CPU use (that's rare). Never thought of trying audio in these conditions though, so cannot confirm if it is indeed a consequence.

--- Comment #6 from Michal Svoboda pht@spatium.org 2009-08-09 04:24:02 --- This bug almost positively depends on 19202. EVE FAQ specifically includes CPU usage as one of the problems with voice audio.

--- Comment #7 from Anton Vorobyov phoenix@mail.ru 2009-08-15 14:27:11 --- By the way, i've been using EVE Voice last 2 days with no issues at all. According to the guys from my fleet - quality of voice transmission was perfect.
That is:
1) No, it doesn't depend on CPU load (i set interval immediate and eve eats 100% of 1 of 2 cores) 2) It can be not wine issue. Did you try out-game native speech recorders? Do they have similar issues or not? 3) If they do not have these issues - most likely it happens due to specific configuration of your machine and wine's interfaces for interaction with them. You say that you do not use sound server - but how did you check that? There're some examples: PulseAudio, ESD aka Enlightened Sound Daemon, JACK, aRts. My system makes use of ESD (libesd). I think more info is welcome on that.
