There is a page fault at the end of the install, are you seeing that?

Unfortunately my entire system locks up, so I'll have to figure out what is
going on before getting any further!

I've checked and have same problem. Tested with v1.3.23

Yes, the install freezes, but it does finish its download. You can "resume"
install by browsing and double-clicking in Nautilus this file:

~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Application
Data/Skype/{D6F879CC-59D6-4D4B-AE9B-D761E48D25ED}/Skype.msi

Odd things:

- If you try to open in terminal, Wine says something about a bad .EXE format
and quits. But if you browse in nautilus and double click, it opens and runs

- At first, there is a Crash dialog. But just click OK, and the program starts.

- Desktop and Menu icons ARE created. And they work

- Contact list and most of the options in GUI work. Tray icon is perfect too.

- The main tab does NOT work. It tried to open its contents in.. FireFox! Lol!
Other tabs (profile, etc)  works perfectly

- It didnt detect my sound card :( I have other apps in same prefix that can
play sound. But Skype is mute.

Last item turned a Bronze (or silver) app into useless garbage.

This bug is quite clearly for the installer, if you have other problems then
open other bugs, don't just fill this up with irrelevant data.

I did some testing of the .exe files from Skype, from version 5.0 and up to the
current 5.5 and they all exhibit the same behavior. When this line:

fixme:storage:create_storagefile Storage share mode not implemented.

appear in the console, they just freeze completely. Sometimes this is the only
line in the console (as is the case with 5.0.0.156) but other times there is
more output, and this line on the end.

If anyone wants to try an .exe with little noise, that still shows this
message, and subsequent freeze, you can get the above mentioned version from
http://oldapps.com/skype.php?old_skype=95#download

On my quest to get Skype working in wine, I tried version 4.0.0.277, and when I
installed this from the .exe file the line:

fixme:storage:create_storagefile Storage share mode not implemented.

appeared, but the installer did _not_ freeze and completed perfectly.

My best bet on how to narrow this down is to run version 5.0.0.156 with some
extra parameters for debugging. I am more than happy to supply any logs that
anyone want, but I have kind of reached the edge of my wine knowledge here.

I get exactly the same log with

but this seems to download whatever the latest version is.

However, before freezing it opens up a link for me to download Skype for Linux
in my default browser (in Linux).  Perhaps this is the intention and not a bug
after all.

Wine 1.3.29 +relay +seh +tid +loadll +exec [38 MB]

Saying that, I have just tried
http://download-a.oldapps.com/Skype/SkypeSetup_5.5.0.113.exe and it does
freeze, doing nothing useful.

Last thing it loads:

trace:loaddll:load_native_dll Loaded L"C:\users\test\Temp\msi2ce7.tmp" at
0x10000000: native

Attaching the full relay as I have no clue as to what it is doing.

Installs here just fine (Wine 1.4), albeit saying that it cannot install Skype
Toolbar.

This bug is probably fixed.
