Jukebox doesn't work properly here either.
opensuse 11.2 x86_64 wine 1.2-rc1 eve-tyrannis
Renaming and deleting the default tracks is a workaround for this. This is not the way it's supposed to work.
I want to hear the default tracks.
There is one stuation where the jukebox plays 1 (default) track, that is when you do a mission and enter a room where there are many agressive npc battleships waiting for you. After the track finishes the music is gone again until the forementioned situation happens again.

--- Comment #16 from evanh evanh@clear.net.nz 2010-05-30 07:07:50 --- It seems like there is two differing complaints in this bug. One is for the non-playing of tracks and the other is for the crashing (which has the work-around).

More clarification needed:
I mean the workaround of renaming the Jukebox dir or disabling sound altogether does not resolve the crashing at the character selection screen just before loading the game environment. About 80% of the time it hangs x at the 80% mark of the logging progress bar, 15% of the time it starts to render the station environment before it hangs, and the other 5% of the time it actually loads the game completely and is semi usable for extended periods of time.

I do not use the workaround for the jukebox. I have no music playing except when entering rooms with aggressive ships in them. In aggressive rooms I hear 1 track and then it's quiet.
I have put the jukebox on pause.
Eve runs stable without the jukebox playing.

EVE runs fine with sound disabled EVE runs fine with sound enabled, but jukebox directory renamed EVE runs fine with sound enabled and jukebox directory in place if jukebox starts out paused
Trying to play default music from jukebox (mp3 files) instantly causes a crash (usually memory corruption). It happens either while loading station (default EVE settings) or when Jukebox is manually unpaused after successful login (custom EVE settings - Jukebox paused by default)
All other in-game sounds work fine.

Getting the jukebox working is problematic on 64Bit Linux installs. Most probably you are missing a appropriate libmp123. I do not want to go into detail. A quick fix is to use winetricks to install MS Windows Media Player 9 and link the mp3codec so it can be used.
in commands: winetricks wmp9 [assuming your have wineprefix set the default way] cd cd .wine/drive_c/windows/system32/ ln -sf l3codeca.acm winemp3.acm
Restart EVE your jukebox should be operational now.
Enjoy the nice EVE music.

--- Comment #38 from N3o diafoirus@gmail.com 2010-10-23 15:00:01 CDT --- --Confirming Wine 1.3.5--
The jukebox works very well installing windows media player 9 + windows media player 9 codecs (with winetricks or manually) and creating a simbolic link as follow:
ln -sf /$HOME/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/l3codeca.acm /$HOME/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/winemp3.acm
So, I have a question, Is Jukebox dependent of Windows Media Player?, Maybe CCP use some external libraries and calls from WMP, like Eve Browser use IExplorer or Chromium (I can't remember XD)...

What you talking about?
The EVE-browser didn't work for me, but only because at me in Debian amd64 the package lib32nss-mdns hasn't been installed. IE for this purpose I didn't install.
OR IE has including in wine by default?

--- Comment #40 from Joachim Rousseau syrion.com@gmail.com 2010-10-25 07:09:33 CDT --- Eve isn't using IE but Awesomium, wich is a wrapped Chromium fo 3D games. So basicaly it is as if you had Google Chrome inside Eve. Before that, Eve used a custom and very simple Gecko.
Browser has nothing to do with this bug.

Both workarounds seem to do the trick, either removing the Jukebox directory from the EVE/res/audio directory or installing wmp, wmp codecs and linking
