Summary: Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 sound loops with wine-0.9.46- 249-g54a4717 Product: Wine Version: CVS/GIT Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-multimedia AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: susancragin@earthlink.net
DNS 9 had been running well for a few days until today. Then an update and re-install showed that the "default" sound system was replaced by dsnoop:0. On DNS's microphone sensitivity test, it worked, but it seemed to have disabled my ATI IXP MP97. When I did the training, funny things started to happen. Every once in a while training would hang up, and wait for me to press the Pause button and then re-start. But the training finished and saved. The big problem came when I finished training, opened DragonPad, and started dictating. The program took a while to spew out my first phrase, but then it did -- over and over again, nonstop, until I shut off the program. There is some sort of looping going on. wine-0.9.46-249-g54a4717 is the git I was using.

--- Comment #1 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2007-10-11 15:41:12 --- Alsa with dsnoop:0 as wave-in device seems to loop. workaround:
winecfg de-select ALSA select OSS
Other workarounds may be possible. I tried keeping ALSA and deselecting dsnoop:0 in favor of my ATI IXP MC97, but then I couldn't bring the volume up, after repeated tries.

--- Comment #2 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2007-10-18 13:42:52 --- Created an attachment (id=8645) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8645) today's terminat output
at the top I put the winecfg output, then what happened when I ran the program.

--- Comment #3 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2007-11-02 21:38:11 --- Still loops today with version: wine-0.9.48-196-gbeab2c1 Short-term solution had been to run winecfg and set audio to OSS driver rather than ALSA. That does stop the looping. However, the OSS option doesn't work as well as it did last week. DNS9 now runs very slowly, with increased latency. And, if you dictate a long phrase, it drops words at the end. This seems to be a regression, since a week ago DNS9 ran fine once I selected OSS.
