--- Comment #1 from Mario Bodemann mario.bodemann@gmail.com --- Hey,
reading through the log, I found this line:
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 1680x1050x32 @60! (XF86VidMode)
which is a similar error I got,
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 800x600x32 @75! (XRandR 1.2)
just before I renamed the `Movies` folder in the root of the War3 installation folder. Can you try and rename the 'Movies' folder, and report if the error still exists?
PS: I'm using `wine-1.9.12 (Staging)`

--- Comment #2 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- Renaming the Movies folder and starting Warcraft 3 causes the game not to crash but the resolution is very low, I'm stuck at a part of my desktop and I'm hearing the ingame sound (the resolution problem also appears on the crash (which also reappears on renaming the Movies folder back) but I'm able to move there around with the mouse and can revert this by using xrandr).

Well wine is giving clear errors that it cant set the resolution it tries. It's no wonder it sets low resolution.

--- Comment #4 from winetest@luukku.com --- I just found an old cd and I installed the game. I can't replicate the issue, but I don't have winegstreamer enabled at compile time.
wine 2.0.rc2.

--- Comment #5 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- With Wine 2.0 RC5 I'm not seeing the crash but still the issues from comment #2 except that I don't hear sound. Also in this case I'm not able to switch to the game and the console gets spammed with "err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 1680x1050x32 @60! (XF86VidMode)". xrandr shows "1680x1050 59.88*+" or could be the 59.88 the problem here? I remember that the proprietary NVIDIA driver does choose these weird numbers for some special reason, I think it was for some sort of ID or such which caused issues for other users. But I'm not sure if this is here the case too (for example the game Guild Wars does work with this resolution and does detect 59 Hz as the refresh rate).

Do you see the error while playing Guild wars that it cant find a resolution? Even it would print something it might use some other resolution?

--- Comment #7 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- No, this error message doesn't appear while Guild Wars is running.

--- Comment #8 from legluondunet@free.fr legluondunet@free.fr --- Very surprising: Blizzard has updated "Warcraft III". How to update: you have to use a legal copy of "Warcraft III" and the serial key. Launch Warcraft III and click on "Battle.net" button, this will launch the update. Next time you launch the game, verify again you have the last update on clicking again on "Battle.net" button.
With this new version, no need to launch Warcraft III with -opengl or -window options, no crash at start neither.
I updated my Warcraft III version with WIne 2.16 staging. The last update installed the 1.28.5.7680 Warcraft III version.
Could you still reproduce this bug with the last Warcraft III and Wine version?

--- Comment #9 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- With Wine 2.16 and the old patch of Warcraft 3 I'm seeing the game crashing no matter if -opengl is used or not. For this reason the new Warcraft 3 patch can't be installed via the game and Blizzard seems to have disabled public access from their FTP server so manually downloading and installing the patch is not possible too. Also even if installing the new Warcraft 3 patch would cause the game not to crash anymore it would not fix this bug since the old Warcraft 3 patch should run fine under Windows while it still does not under Wine.

--- Comment #10 from legluondunet@free.fr legluondunet@free.fr --- Try a different way to install Warcraft III on your computer: download the game directly from Blizzard official page: https://eu.battle.net/shop/fr/product/warcraft-iii-reign-of-chaos You will need a valid key to download the last version of the game. I tested yesterday evening, it works! No need for dll or workaround, it works.

--- Comment #11 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- Also the current version of Warcraft 3 (downloaded via the Battle.net account) has troubles even with a new profile (Wine 3.13). On starting it a window is created (with an estimated size of 800*600 pixel) but it stays black while 1 CPU core uses permanently 100% of the CPU time. The only 2 lines I get are:
0009:err:winediag:load_gssapi_krb5 Failed to load libgssapi_krb5, Kerberos SSP support will not be available. 0009:err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 1680x1050x32 @60! (XF86VidMode)
