Bug #: 29057 Summary: Latest update caused the Now You're Cooking program not to work under Wine any more. Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: whuebl@hotmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Within the past several days, I activated my paid for Now You're Cooking database program version 5.88 in the process of activation, am message came up to wait a moment while Wine updated. After that neither the 5.88 nor the 5.87 version works. Fortunately, I have backups for my nearly 1/2 million recipes, but it looks like I will be going back to my Windows Laptop to use this program rather than on my Linux desktop under Wine. Help?
Oh, what happens now is the program loads but when the screen comes up, nothing works when you click on it. And sometimes you cannot even see the cursor!
TIA,
Bill

--- Comment #4 from Bill whuebl@hotmail.com 2011-11-11 20:16:41 CST --- ***** fell back to 1.2 wine and it worked ok with it so must be a bug somewhere in some later update. I am not that experienced to do more of a regression test.

Seems to work very well for me. I used the link http://www.pchefnet.com/nyc/snyc588i.exe and current git wine.
Is it the correct file?
If yes, what are the step to reproduce the crash?

There are a couple of (minor) differences between what you download and my version.
1. The download version points to data within the download file whereas my version points to data within my own files. Not that there is anything hinky with that since the data files were built totally with NYC software and have been maintained by them exclusively. And NYC allows that. My configuration has been working properly through many iterations of both Windows and Linux for over 10 years until last week when some automatic changes were made to Wine.
2. I am registered with NYC for use of the program, which btw is fantastic - I have almost 1/2 million recipes in my files in 15 cookbooks (each cookbook has its own set of files). I don't think being unregistered causes any difference in operation... bwdik?
3. Do not be fooled with the appearance of the program (gui) screen which makes it appear that everything is working ok. I have found that when I tried to click on anything, there was no response... I couldn't even get the program to end - had to force it to close.
I was using 1.3 version of Wine when having the problems and dropped back to 1.2 and the NYC program works fine.
Thanks for everyone's help - will use 1.2 until a newer version that works with NYC is released. Thanks again.

It won't be fixed unless you cooperate by - specifying the required information like version where the problem first occurs - performing a regression test as explained on http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting
If you have issues performing the regression test, or the instructions aren't clear enough in the wiki page, please ask/report on the wine-users forum (http://forum.winehq.org/) or via IRC on the #winehq channel on irc.freenode.net
Please at least try.
