The installer says: Bioware Installer 1.03 (NSIS v2.34) in case that helps.

I get to choose language, agree to EULA, type in the registration code, choose
express or custom install (doesn't matter), then click install - it proceeds to
crash and traceback. Seemingly while trying to decide where to install.

The traceback as such only implicates user32 and the installer app itself.

That appears to be guid for browseui.dll. Could you try using native browsui
(and also register it) and try again? thx

Grabbed and registered. No change. Probably wrong browseui.dll version, or
wrong install method... will try a few more tricks.

It seems to be the GUID of the rather under-documented ACListISF interface. Or
"Microsoft Shell Folder AutoComplete List", according to various registry
dumps. In browseui.dll, agreed.

Doing a IE6 install via ies4linux 2.99.0.1 gets the proper GUIDs in place in
the wine registry. I now crash a little bit further on.

Will attach screenshot and new console dump.

It actually loops for a while creating these "Failed to get shell item icon."
popups from the screenshot, before crashing.
