Trying to insert a jpeg in Word, Excel, or Powerpoint 2003 now causes a crash
in gdiplus. Inserting a png or gif doesn't crash, but it inserts a solid black
box.

The regression test identified the following:

gdiplus: Prefer the builtin version.

Manually setting an override for gdiplus obviously solves the problem.

Possibly a WONTFIX, but if so, bug 14980 should also be one.

This should be fixed in builtin gdiplus, of course, assuming you have Wine
working properly with libjpeg.

Can you get a +gdiplus,+wincodecs log?

Rosanne, try current Wine. GdipGetImageItemData stub is present now.

The crash is gone in wine-1.1.39-163-g583f0f0, and jpegs display fine. However,
inserted gifs still display as solid black boxes. Most pngs now display as
solid white boxes, so they're not even visible unless selected, though I did
have a couple that displayed properly. Both filetypes display fine when using
Office's own gdiplus.

See also bug 21952. It seems that builtin gdiplus has difficulties with
embedded objects.

+gdiplus opening a document with a png and a gif

Attaching a log from opening a doc file that has one png and one gif in it. The
png displays all white (and hence is invisible), the gif displays as a black
box.

This appears to be fixed in 1.2; pngs and gifs display properly with builtin
gdiplus.

I'm marking this fixed. If any other problems turn up from not using Office's
own gdiplus, I'll file separate bugs.
