Summary: MXit PC: Displays window with no contents on start Product: Wine Version: 1.1.2 Platform: Other URL: http://www.mxit.com/mxitpc OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: wine-bugs@mohag.net
MXit PC 1.3.0.5 Beta (the latest (and only) version available at the time of the test) opens a window that shows "main" on the taskbar on its second start. This Window only display the content of whatever is below it or it is completely white (after restoring from minimize)
Currently startup results are inconsistent, with a total failure to start after a few tries.
Without any debug options the console gives several ole and urlmon related errors.
Tested under Wine 1.1.2 under Gentoo with a clean WINEPREFIX.

It runs better after winetricks dcom98. With native dcom it only gives urlmon errors on the console and a Fatal error: "The dynamic link library 'RPCRT4,DLL' could not be found" in a message box. Thereafter it shows the white window as described above.

--- Comment #4 from Gert van den Berg wine-bugs@mohag.net 2008-08-04 13:11:42 --- To clarify on the white window vs. crash. It seems to open the white window when starting from the applications menu and crashes when ran from the console.
Console command: ~/.wine_mxit/drive_c/Program Files/MXit/MXitPC $ WINEPREFIX=~/.wine_mxit wine c:\Program\ Files\MXit\MXitPC\launcher.exe &> ~/wine_mxit.log
Command in Applications menu: env WINEPREFIX="/home/mohag/.wine_mxit" wine "C:\Program Files\MXit\MXitPC\launcher.exe"
Work path: /home/mohag/.wine_mxit/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/MXit/MXitPC/

--- Comment #6 from Louis Lenders xerox_xerox2000@yahoo.co.uk 2008-08-05 14:38:41 --- Hi, this looks like it's a bug in wine's oleaut32. I have an older version of this program on my hard disk, (as a there was once a question from a user on the userlist) and that one too displays the window fine with native oleaut32.
This newer version also seem to suffer from an additional bug in shdocvw (bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14139) A have a patch for that last bug lying here, but i dunno if it's really correct, i'll attach it to that bug.

--- Comment #7 from Gert van den Berg wine-bugs@mohag.net 2008-08-05 15:36:58 --- Ok, the oleaut32.dll override fixes the UI...
It still starts up with an error though and fails to connect.
Screenshot of startup attached.
It fails startup from the command line though... Log attached. (still lots of ole and urlmon errors)

The crash at startup seemed to be caused by the working directory when starting the application.
Same command as above but from application folder.
Program quit with Alt+F4

Latest MxitPC download (1.3.0.5 Beta) Latest Wine (1.1.14) Video: Intel X3100, Mesa 7.2, renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) G33 20061102 OS: Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64
From clean install, no overrides, it shows a splash screen (with some
alpha-blending issues) and dies.
With a oleauth32.dll override, it starts, opens a white window and crashes with a Visual C++ runtime error on Alt-F4 the first time. Runtime error closed by itself before I could take a screenshot.
Second start with oleauth32.dll override it dies after splashscreen.
Several runs later, it actually opened a non-white window with what looks like normal content displayed. I quit from the tray icon and it Gave the runtime error (This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way) again, I took a screenshot (which I cannot find) and clicked OK. Window did not disappear yet. Used close from Gnome application bar context menu to close.

Note for previous comment: rpcrt4 is actually in windows\system32 and override is set.
Better not do winetricks dcom98, that messes up quite bit.
I did "winetricks mfc42" (also installs a native oleaut32)
Then set oleaut32 to native. Then it starts just fine for me ( but don't how to test further)

I did a clean MXitPC install. Did not start it before override.
Did override. Started program. Started fine. Logs in fine.
Gives error shortly after login. Visual C++ runtime error pops up and application crashes. (Probably another bug?)
I have a test account somewhere, will try to find it and post login details.

--- Comment #21 from Gert van den Berg wine-bugs@mohag.net 2009-02-08 05:13:54 --- Mxit is an instant messenger aimed at mobile phones. I created a test account from my phone on a bogus number.

--- Comment #22 from Gert van den Berg wine-bugs@mohag.net 2010-02-14 12:24:41 --- This bug is no longer relevant. The MXit developers stopped developing the MXit PC app and is instead focusing on a Pidgin plugin. (It is included in the latest Pidgin and also runs under Linux, eliminating the need to run it mostly...)
