Summary: Aztaka fails to run Product: Wine Version: 1.1.39 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: gyebro69@gmail.com CC: m.b.lankhorst@gmail.com
Aztaka installs, but fails to run in wine-1.1.39 (wine shows a crash dialog).
Wine-1.1.39 (compiled from source) Fedora 12 x86 Nvidia driver 190.53
Here you can find the demo version of game (in case of testing), ~890 Mbyte in size: http://aztaka.citeremis.com/?page_id=292
Note #1: The installer (using NSIS's installer) installs DirectX Runtimes, there is no option NOT to install it, finishing the setup process takes a very long time (because of DX installation) but finally it succeeded. Note #2: The game needs "winetricks vcrun2008" to run.
The last wine version I was able to run the game was 1.1.35, so I made a regression test that ended up with the following:
3410ab8b7ce434bfbccb1429c0d802c2e53bb8ce is the first bad commit commit 3410ab8b7ce434bfbccb1429c0d802c2e53bb8ce Author: Maarten Lankhorst m.b.lankhorst@gmail.com Date: Mon Dec 14 16:04:04 2009 +0100

--- Comment #2 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-02-26 15:39:11 --- This is essentially a duplicate of bug 21248. Disabling the builtin mmdevapi should probably help Aztaka run.

--- Comment #3 from Maarten Lankhorst m.b.lankhorst@gmail.com 2010-02-26 15:39:11 --- Can I get a WINEDEBUG=+mmdevapi log?
Might be a duplicate of 21248, but not sure yet

Actually, setting mmdevapi=disable in winecfg solved the crash problem, now the game starts up fine. Thank you for pointing that out.
Attached an output when starting the game with WINEDEBUG=+mmdevapi, as requested by Maarten Lankhorst.

--- Comment #5 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-04-28 12:19:31 --- In wine-1.1.43-347-gb939193 the game no longer needs 'mmdevapi=disabled' to start up correctly, so it's fixed now.
Unfortunately, I couldn't test the game in the last few days using git, so don't know exactly which commit 'healed' the issue. I suspect one of Maarten's patches on the mmdevapi thing.
