Bug ID: 54784 Summary: mIRC 7.72 crashes after restoring from application tray Product: Wine Version: 8.5 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: dragone2@risposteinformatiche.it Distribution: ---
Created attachment 74279 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=74279 Unhandled exception: page fault on read access - mIRC - Wine-staging 8.5
mIRC was running for about 4-5 hours before the crash. It was reduced on the tray and its icon was blinking to notify that there were new messages / activities in channels or private messages. I clicked on it to restore the window and see the messages and wine gave me this backtrace (see the attachment). I was forced to quit mIRC and restart it again. This rarely happens, so it's not a real problem for me, but I don't know if it could help you fix this.
Other infos: - Executable path: D:\mIRC\mirc.exe - mIRC Version: 7.72 (the latest one). - mIRC running in portable mode from a specific drive (on Wine, D:) formatted in NTFS. - mIRC was running using some custom scripts. But this crash never happen on Windows. - Distro: Linux Mint 21.1 with latest updates. - Kernel: 5.15.0-69-generic - Wine infos: Wine build: wine-8.5 (Staging) Platform: i386 (WOW64) Version: Windows 10 - Drive Z: is a drive formatted in BTRFS. - CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 - RAM: 32 GB, when the crash occurred I was using less than 8 GB.

--- Comment #1 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- 1. Are you sure you're using a WOW64 build? Did you build this yourself? What commands did you use to start the application?
2. Does the same thing occur in vanilla Wine? Is there a reason you're using Staging?
3. Please include the full log, not just the exception.
Thanks!

--- Comment #2 from Dragone2 dragone2@risposteinformatiche.it --- Hi, 1. Yes, I'm using winehq-staging with wine-staging-amd64 (so there is WoW64 support). I didn't build it by myself but I use the one available here:
http://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/
The application was started with this command:
env __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia WINEPREFIX="/home/dragone2/.wine/" wine /home/dragone2/mIRC/mirc.exe
2. I tried on vanilla Wine when it was 7.0 but also the version of mIRC was like 7.69 and it didn't occur. I experienced it twice in a year only on wine-staging, so it's difficult to replicate. Actually I moved on wine-staging 8.12 with the latest version of mIRC 7.73. I'm using staging because I also use wine to run other software, like games and I prefer to see if there are improvements that are available only on staging.
3. Unfortunately I'm unable to give your more logs since I faced the issue last time on 2023-04-05 and I actually never got this from then. If I'll reface this issue, I'll give you all the logs that I have.

--- Comment #3 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- Will leave as-is for now and check back later. Just upload the logs if it happens again - we'll see it.
But it needs to be vanilla Wine. There's no point in asking the Staging devs to look at a bug that isn't caused by the Staging patches.

--- Comment #4 from KindOne ineedalifetoday@live.com --- Could it be related to this bug that was fixed a few months back?
Do you use /donotdisturb ?

--- Comment #5 from Dragone2 dragone2@risposteinformatiche.it --- Hi, It may be related. I don't use the /flash function with a custom script, but mIRC was reduced on tray and it was flashing. Anyway I didn't set the Do-Not-Disturb, I don't use this feature on mIRC.
