Summary: Checkpoint installer dies when running fwkern.exe Product: Wine Version: 1.1.19 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ashogunnamedmarcus@yahoo.com
Created an attachment (id=20593) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20593) Entire checkpoint install log file
Checkpoint VPN client does not successfully complete installation. I checked out the install log, things seem to be going well until the installer attempts to run 'fwkern.exe'. This results in errors like "Failed to INetCfg" and dumps.
I've attached the whole damn log which includes a few install attempts.
Thanks and let me know if I can be any help.

Even installed this probably won't work.

I suspect you're right, Vitaliy, if it wants to create a virtual network interface or some such thing. Still, it might be worth mentioning that INetCfg is documented, and implemented in inetcfg.dll. Perhaps a stub implementation of INetCfg would at least get the app to install.

If I'm not mistaken, this is exactly what it does while running in Windows. When the client is up, you can type 'ipconfig' at a cmd prompt and software adapters for Checkpoint are in the list.

This is one of my few used Windows apps, I would be willing to try but I could not find reference to the inetcfg fix on the wine page?

Ah. That's almost certainly not going to work in Wine, then. Modifying the (Linux) networking stack via installing a (Windows) device driver is beyond Wine's scope.

I was suggesting that one could be written, not that one exists.

I just installed wine-1.1.32 and the problem persists as noted. Judging by above comments and that the software relies on creating fakey soft adapters in windows, I'm not sure it will ever really work.

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-12-23 19:06:51 CST --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.3.9 or newer) wine?

Is this still an issue in 1.6-rc2 or higher or is this abandoned ?
