Summary: GTA III (Grand Theft Auto 3) doesn't run in Wine 1.1.1 (due to "unhandled exception") Product: Wine Version: 1.1.1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: andy.elvey@paradise.net.nz
Created an attachment (id=14744) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=14744) Choosing GTA III from the Wine menu in Ubuntu.
GTA III successfully *installs* in Wine 1.1.1, but it does not run. An "Unhandled Exception" error pop-up window appears. I am running Ubuntu Linux (Hardy, 8.04).
These are the steps to reproduce the bug. 1 - Install GTA III. 2 - From the Applications, Wine menu, select "Play GTA III". 3 - You should now get an error pop-up window which says-
"Unhandled exception: 80000101 At address: ffffe410"
My feeling is that this shouldn't be all that difficult to fix. If it can be fixed, one of the all-time-classic games will be able to be played in Wine... :)

--- Comment #6 from Andy Elvey andy.elvey@paradise.net.nz 2008-11-22 00:43:06 --- Hi.
I've just tried to run GTA III in Wine 1.1.9 now (22nd Nov 2008) and I get an almost identical error to the one reported by Alexandre Felipe Muller de Souza.
The only difference is that I get an unhandled exception with a different address - my address is b7fa9410. The one in his screenshot is b7fb2410.
So, I can confirm that this bug is still present as of Wine 1.1.9 (and has been since my previous report in Wine 1.1.1 ).

--- Comment #7 from Alexander Dorofeyev alexd4@inbox.lv 2008-11-22 03:15:10 --- GTA 3 is the one called Liberty City, I guess? Did it ever work for you in any versions of Wine? I think it used to run for me when I tested back then Wine was like 0.9.60. So this could be a regression. Please test 0.9.60 and, if it runs, it would greatly help if you run regression test

Hi -
Yes, that's right, this is the original GTA 3 - the "Liberty City" one. No, I've never been able to run this version of GTA 3 in Wine.
Ok, I'll try to test this with Wine 0.9.60, and will look at that regression-testing info - I'll try to run that too (it may be a day or two before I can do so). Thanks for your comments! - Andy

Hi Austin! I compiled the wine 1.1.22 in ubuntu to see if the problema were solved and this problem does not occur in wine 1.1.22 anymore. Unfortunately the game have not loaded because it says that I don't have enough memory (But I know I have). But the problem is other, this ticket we could label as closed.

Open a new bug for the other problem (search for dupes first).
