Bug #: 34907 Summary: Evernote 5.0.x (all versions) search popup permanently above all other windows Product: Wine Version: 1.7.3 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: danny@orionrobots.co.uk Classification: Unclassified
Using Evernote 5.0.x (1,2 and 3 have exhibited this on Wine), the search popup is always on top - above all other desktop windows, and is hard to close.
I usually have to minimize the main Evernote window to make it disappear.
This is seen on FC19 x86_64.

--- Comment #2 from Danny Staple danny@orionrobots.co.uk 2013-11-28 08:28:47 CST --- Created attachment 46663 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=46663 Wine with GDI plus during problem.
This problem does not persist if using the winetricks gdiplus library. So in a fresh prefix I ran this: WINEARCH=win32 WINEDEBUG=+gdiplus,+gdi WINEPREFIX=~/.wine_new wine "C:\program files\evernote\evernote\evernote.exe" &>wine_evernote_gdiplus.log
I allowed wine Evernote to open, let the search open, switched to another window with the search popup stuck in front, then dismissed evernote, along with the persistent toolbar item it leaves behind.
There is a little too much going on at one time to identify the trace where the problem item is - or should be dismissed - gdi is very chatty. Gzipped because of its size.

I've often found it useful to search for text in the logs.

--- Comment #6 from Danny Staple danny@orionrobots.co.uk 2013-11-29 11:23:48 CST --- I have a better download link: http://cdn1.evernote.com/win5/public/Evernote_5.0.3.1614.exe
I do not see this popup being stuck running on Windows, and I was able to dismiss the popup properly with the winetricks gdi+. In the normal gdi+ - if you alt-tab to another window, the popup will reappear over all other windows - even if you'd dismissed it.
My workaround has been to park the evernote window at the very bottom of the screen so it's less annoying. Minimizing the main window does not always prevent the dialog overlapping other windows too.
The only consistent text in it is "Search".

--- Comment #8 from Bert Vorenholt bert@vorenholt.nl --- I can confirm this very annoying bug.
Using version 5.0.3.1614 from within PlayOnLinux with gdiplus installed to stop wincodec crashes, running Ubuntu 13.10 (amd64) with WINE v1.7.8 (64 bit).
Is there anything i can do to help hunting this thing?

--- Comment #12 from gosooners2091@gmail.com --- Using Evernote 5.1.0.nnnn / Wine 1.4 / Ubuntu 12.04
I am able to consistently re-create this bug by opening EN and clicking in the search box, which brings up the search popup. Then opening another program without minimizing EN. The popup always persists.
The following workaround step(s) have been successful for me (so far):
1) When persisting popup encountered, go to EN and click the "x" at the right end of the search box. This closes the popup in EN. Click back to other programs and no more EN search popup. So far, this always works.
2) As I was playing with this, I first noticed that sometimes just minimizing EN would work, but not always for whatever reason. So I just stick with #1 above.
Hope this helps. I'm an Ubuntu and Wine newbie, but I've been using Evernote for years...
Cheers!

P.S - Sometimes I have to type a <space> into the search box to keep the popup from coming back up while I'm still in EN.
