AppDB reports that this worked in 1.2.1-rc7. Possibly a regression.

Yep.

In Wine 1.6-rc4 the installer even offers a clue by reporting that the
installation path has invalid characters.

Workaround is to change the install path to c:\Program Files or use a 32-bit
wineprefix.
