Summary: Regression from 1.3.22 -> 1.3.23. Overlord Steam version. Left mouse button no longer responds in menus. Product: Wine Version: 1.3.23 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: twighome@ntlworld.com
In the Steam version of Overlord (the original game), after an upgrade from 1.3.22 to 1.3.23, the left mouse button no longer works in in-game menus. It is possible to use the enter button in most situations as a workaround.
Left mouse button works correctly in other situations.
OS is Ubuntu 11.04 32bit.
Thanks, Twig.

--- Comment #2 from twighome@ntlworld.com 2011-06-28 15:05:56 CDT --- Hi,
Have run the regression test as per the instructions resulting in:

After some further testing, it may also be to do with the in-game menu not having focus - or not being assigned it correctly as after I hit alt-tab, I can use the menu as normal.
I have noticed this behaviour in other applications in recent versions of Wine which prompted me to try it in this case.
Hopefully I've done this correctly as it's my first time diagnosing a bug in Wine. The instructions were remarkably straightforward and informative though.
Thanks, Twig.

--- Comment #3 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2011-07-17 05:08:09 CDT --- In Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator mouse clicks cease to function (usually after a couple of seconds during gameplay). At first I thought this is caused by the mouse pointer leaving the game window. After some more testing it turned out that the problem happens randomly as well.
The problem arises - in fullscreen mode - in virtual desktop mode, only when 'Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows' option is checked.
As a workaround, I have to switch to another app in Linux (alt-tabbing) then switch back to the game. Mouse clicks work again in the game but only temporarily: the problem occurs again and again.
Regression testing resulted the same commit as reported here in Overlord (6b0d9ff1cd6876f8181c95063b775d1cfe3a1d12). The patch can be reverted cleanly on current git (wine-1.3.24-174-g4b4dd30) and that fixed the problem in Septerra Core.
The issue can be reproduced in the demo of Septerra Core: http://www.fileplanet.com/21694/20000/fileinfo/Septerra-Core-Demo
1) You don't have to install the demo just unzip the contents of the archive and launch the game by SCDEMO.EXE 2) After you started a new game skip the videos/dialogues by pressing <Esc>. When you gain control over your character move it around in the room by pressing left mouse button. It doesn't take too long until mouse clicks cease to function in the game.

--- Comment #4 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2011-07-31 02:26:23 CDT --- This bug has been removed from my wine...and this is due to the following commit:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/dc801b9831f990c5b9e61da93c25840...
I also tried Overlord (Steam): the reported problem has gone away in that, too.
OP, could you test Overlord (Steam) with Wine-1.3.25 (or newer). Probably it is fixed for you, too.
