I've similar bug as this http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7996 on Ubuntu 10.4 machine i've recently setup to run dedicated servers.
Connection is fine - but game loads on client till 98% than times out... This happens only on FE servers Second Encounter servers are fine.

Your Wine version is very old. Please retest in the current development release (1.5.19 or later).

I'm still checking what and why... and today I've installed Ubuntu 10.04.2 on Vbox ...minimal install no desktop than wine 1.5.19 ...all went fine
and it works.. i could connect without problem. after that - I've checked same install on different production Ubuntu machine with same wine setup.. - nothing again ..
the server I'm using to host games and other one I've tried today - both are Virtual machines in cloud ...so it should work as with my test Vbox machine - right ?
What could there be missing that breaks the connection ?

we are currently using 1.7.53 wine. There are zero logs to start working with. I would say abandoned.
