Summary: Window fonts render italisized, bold, and ugly. Product: Wine Version: 0.9.48. Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-gdi-(printing) AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: Hubmasterflex@hotmail.com
I'm pretty sure this is trivial and I'm missing something here but whenever I run Pokerstars, the window fonts render very ugly. I've Googled for this issue and can't seem to find other people having this problem or a solution. I'm running Sabayon 3.4 mini with Fontforge installed. I've looked at the font settings in WineCFG but I don't seem to be able to change the right setting. I'm thinking it could be a registry setting. If someone can lead me to the right track on how to change this, i'd greatly appreciate it. I'll post screenshots of this. I've only been able to reproduce this bug in PokerStars. Oddly enough, when I copy all of the fonts from my windows installation to the Fonts folder in drive_c, the font becomes bold.

Not too obvious here, but the font is located at the window above Tourney.

It's more obvious here with the button text and the table layout list.

Oddly enough, I've only seen this problem limited to PokerStars. I've used Firefox, Thunderbird, Shareaza, and several other programs. PokerStars is the only one that renders these fonts rather ugly.

--- Comment #4 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2007-10-29 12:48:09 --- what distro are you running?
Did you compile wine yourself or are you using a package provided by the distro? If you compiled wine yourself, what version of fontforge do you have installed?
if you start with a clean .wine directory, can you reproduce the problem, in say, pokerstar?

--- Comment #5 from Hubmaster Hubmasterflex@hotmail.com 2007-10-30 01:32:38 --- I am currently running Sabayon 3.4 mini. Fontforge and Wine were both installed by Portato (aka: Emerge). I have also installed Wine by source only to achieve the same results. Fontforge was updated to version 20071002 with every flag enabled, I installed Wine with all flags enabled too. I have Wine 0.9.48 installed. I went back to a previous version of Wine (0.9.30) with the same problem. I kept an eye out for FontForge and it seemed to have found it with no problem while I ran ./configure.
I copied all my fonts over from an existing Windows installation. Without any fonts in drive_c/fonts folder, the text has same font, italizised, but not bolded. When I add all my Windows fonts, (250 or so) the font becomes bolded.
I have already deleted my Wine directory and reinstalled PS with no success.
I will try to run Wine on another Linux distro to see if I can reproduce this problem. I'll post the results here.
BTW, I'm only having this problem in PokerStars. All other programs that I have used (Shareaza, Firefox, Thunderbird) so far don't seem to have this problem. If anybody can give me some freeware downloads to test this with, I'd gladly appreciate it.

--- Comment #7 from Hubmaster Hubmasterflex@hotmail.com 2008-02-18 21:13:52 --- It seems like this is distribution specific. It runs cleanly on Kubuntu with the msttcorefonts package, I guess there's no equivalent in Sabayon's Portage system. I'm closing this bug as invalid
