[Bug 19499] New: Halo CE's built-in chat does not work.

When you're playing you usually press "T" or "H" to get a one-line chat prompt.

Problem is that you can't see what you're typing. Neither what others say.

I'll play with a friend to ask if he can see what I send (I'll just type
something and then press enter to send the message), as I think it's just a
problem with the text drawing.

This text is the only with a font one in pure white color, maybe it's related
to it or some missing font?.

What could I do to help debugging this?.

I had just seen this video:

Which shows how to change font's in halo (also proper behavior of the built-in
chat).

"Arial Narrow" is the default, but it's not in my system so I changed them to
"Arial" but nothing, changed text color from "#ffffffff" (yes, there's 8 chars)
and nothing again.

Downloaded "Arial Narrow" to .wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts/Arial Narrow.ttf and
nothing.

What else could I try?.

I got that DLL from my XP machine and put it on
".wine/drive_c/windows/system32/"

But still no luck :(

For the record, "that DLL" is msxml4.  Please don't refer to other sites if you
can avoid it, if they're down we can't follow what the bug is about.

Same output as #19499.

I installed msxml40 using winetricks, situation did change a bit (now I get a
message telling me that "there was an error parsing content/XXX.ksml")

I think it's because I modified the files and maybe the line endings got wrong.
I'll get a copy of that folder ASAP to try again.

"Fixed", using MSXML40 (installed using winetricks).

So, should this bug be titled "Halo 1's built-in chat needs native MSXML 4.0"?

Fine by me. There's a good chance it's fixed anyway, given all the recent msxml
work recently.

I'll try ASAP, I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and wine 1.3.28. Just need to get a
working copy of Halo 1 (this was 2 years ago).
