--- Comment #1 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- Please specify what Wine version you're using, if not 1.7.25 then upgrade.
The game comes with native msvcp71, msvcr71 and msvcrt installed in the game directory but Wine uses the built-in ones. Set msvcp71.dll to (native, builtin) or (native) in winecfg's libraries tab, and tell us if you've managed to get in the game with that override.
After creating an account the game is available to download for free: http://mystonline.com/en/play/

So bug 10860 may have been fixed?
Dunno, I tested the current game version of Myst Online: Uru Live Again, client version is 1.918. Performance is roughly the same whether I run the game in Wine 1.4.1 or 1.7.25 (I'd say performance is acceptable with both Wine versions but I can't test it under real Windows).

--- Comment #4 from Yclept Nemo orbisvicis@gmail.com --- Thanks, with msvcp71 overridden to native, irrespective of msvcr71 or msvcrt, the game will work. That is to say, I can get past the autoupdater. I haven't tested the game itself.
I am using wine 1.7.25, as provided by WineHQ's ubuntu PPA (all the details are linked in the forums).
For the record, the client is opensource. The original code is at https://foundry.openuru.org/hg/CWE-ou, while the updated client is at https://github.com/H-uru/Plasma. Unfortunately neither have been updated to work under linux.

--- Comment #5 from Yclept Nemo orbisvicis@gmail.com --- The override must be for UruExplorer, not UruLauncher.

The complete +msvcp,+relay log is ~3 GB, the attached log contains the last 1 million lines of that log.

--- Comment #8 from Yclept Nemo orbisvicis@gmail.com --- An override must also be added for openal32 to get any sound. Unfortunately, sound suffers many glitches, and if these glitches pile up too fast the sound devolves into an unbearably loud continuous unstoppable buzz. To quote:
"If "Sound FX" volume slider is not at zero, there is a hugely loud, staticy sampling noise that occurs intermittently mixed in with the other game audio."
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37189
--- Comment #9 from Yclept Nemo orbisvicis@gmail.com --- Using the updated client (second link few posts back) - the Gehn shard - resolves the sound issues. This most likely means the SoundDecompressor tool provided at http://forum.guildofwriters.org/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=4203 should also work, if you wish to run (nearly-vanilla) MOULa.
The Gehn client requires only an override for openal32 and not and msvc libraries. Since winecfg disallows overriding applications with the same name and the Gehn executable shares the name UruExplorer with MOULa, only a singe shard can work at a time.
Regarding performance, from limited testing I too find the game acceptable. Perhaps try running the game in a separate X server - outside of gnome3 I usually gain +20 fps.

--- Comment #10 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- Please keep this bug report about the original startup problem caused by built-in msvcp71 and open a new bug report about the audio issue. You're probably aware of the sound decompressing bug resulting in missing sounds in URU: see bug #17403. I'm not claiming that this is the same as #17403, but there's a chance that Myst Online shares some of the code of the original URU game.
