Bug ID: 39937 Summary: Toad Data Modeler Freeware reports "OLE error 80020006" Product: Wine Version: 1.8 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: jhansonxi@gmail.com Distribution: Ubuntu
Xubuntu 14.04 x86_64, AMD Phenom 9550, GeForce GTX 750Ti with Nvidia 340.96 driver. Wine 1.8 (git) Toad Data Modeler Freeware 5.4.8.1
This is from a manual installation as a workaround of bug #39936. Installation may be incomplete.
At start-up and exit it reports "OLE error 80020006". It generates a crash report but doesn't allow for saving it. It opens the default mail client to submit the report. It's using EurekaLog (https://www.eurekalog.com) for crash reporting. Nothing obvious to me in the Wine messages (summarized):

No longer occurs in Wine Staging 2.0-RC1 and Toad 5.4.9.2 so this bug can be closed.
Well the Toad version differs from the one reported. It could be also program update that got it fixed. Did you use wine or wine-staging at report time?
If you mark this fixed and the fix was in program update or you changed from wine to wine-staging and staging fixed and mark this fixed. Then the wine changelog is false positive. It's good that you got it working, but it would be also good that the fix really landed in wine.

The freeware trial 5.4.8.1 doesn't run because it's past the hard-coded 6-month expiration date. Since the product has been transferred from Dell to Quest there isn't any way to get a trial key for that version.
Wine 1.8 compiled from Git originally.
Still uses EurekaLog according to Dependency Walker.

--- Comment #4 from Jeff D. Hanson jhansonxi@gmail.com --- Follow up.
Since a workaround for the install bug has been reported, I was able to install 5.4.8.1 properly. I was able to run it by changing the system date back to 2015.
The error doesn't occur now. There's some other OLE errors that Wine reports but they're not fatal to the app:
err:ole:RevokeDragDrop invalid hwnd 0x1027a err:winediag:SQLDrivers No ODBC drivers could be found. Check the settings for your libodbc provider. err:ole:apartment_getclassobject DllGetClassObject returned error 0x80040111 err:ole:create_server class {88d969c0-f192-11d4-a65f-0040963251e5} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {88d969c0-f192-11d4-a65f-0040963251e5} could be created for context 0x5
I think the original problem was the incomplete hacked install, and its current absence is due to that being corrected rather than Wine changes.

--- Comment #5 from winetest@luukku.com --- Bug status should be changed either invalid or worksforme. Can't mark this fixed if it's not sure wine really fixed something. And also if you can't preroduce a problem we shouldnt keep this bug alive either. Since you are the author of the bug you have the priviledges to close this bug not everyone has.
