Summary: Ace of Spades: Incomplete Sound Product: Wine Version: 1.3.17 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: chrishylands@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=34111) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=34111) Command Line Output
When starting the game "Ace of Spades" you will hear the connection successful music, or the initial sound of your player loading his gun. After that point no sound will be heard for the rest of the game. The output from running this game through wine via command line is attatched. This line in specific stands out
fixme:dsalsa:IDsDriverBufferImpl_SetVolumePan (0x143868,0x143ca0): stub
I think this might have something to do with the sound failing at the start of the game.
This game can be downloaded and run for free at www.ace-spades.com

--- Comment #1 from Chris H chrishylands@gmail.com 2011-04-14 16:41:39 CDT --- Interestingly enough, this time I booted up my computer and played Ace of Spades before doing anything else. Audio worked perfectly for about a minute, playing all of the normal walking and shooting sounds (whereas before it just played the startup noise) and then abruptly stopped.
I might have missed it before, but now each time I re-start the game there is no audio at the start.

How are you running this? I am immediately confronted with a page fault.
I posted what I believe to be an explanation in the comments for Bug 26782.

--- Comment #4 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2011-04-15 00:50:35 CDT --- Well I'm trying to confirm this but every server I try is "full or misconfigured"!
Do you have a server that actually works?

Sorry about this. The games popularity has exploded in the past week (it's only been out for about eight days) and it can be tricky to find a server. When on the website look for servers that have lots of spaces open (12/32 or 2/12). Don't choose ones with 0/X because the admin probably didn't set it up right so no one can join.
Thank you very much for your help though! I apologize for the frustrations.

Are you using Pulseaudio as an audio-system? I had the same problem you reported and I fixed it by either disabling pulseaudio (you need to deactivate the autospawn via the client.conf) or by using a wine version with pulseaudio audio output module.
That way Ace of Spades had sound again.

I don't think that I am actually using it, but I do see that it is enabled (I think from when I played around with terminal based audio players). I'm deep in finals at the moment, but I'm going to try using that fix as soon as I have a break. Thanks for the advice!

Sounds good! I'll take your word on it for now and put it up under the directions (can't hurt) and I'll verify that it works (for me at least) tomorrow after my exam.

--- Comment #10 from Michael Stefaniuc mstefani@redhat.com 2012-12-03 16:33:15 CST --- The sound back end in Wine changed considerably since this bug was reported. Wine has taken the path of "modern" Windows and there is no hardware acceleration anymore.
Can you please retest and report back?
