Summary: winevdm.exe crashes when compiled with FreeType Product: Wine Version: 1.3.18 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: todurov+wine@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=34306) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=34306) Backtrace of the crash
Trying to run Stars! 2.6j, which can be downloaded for free from http://wiki.starsautohost.org/files/stars26jrc4.zip
When Wine is compiled --without-freetype, Stars! runs, but some fonts look ugly. When Wine is compiled with FreeType, winevdm.exe crashes.
I tested with current Wine git master HEAD (2011-04-23) and a couple of slightly older checkouts as well.
My system: Arch Linux, amd64, kernel 2.6.37, gcc 4.5.2, glibc 2.13-4, freetype2 2.4.4-2

--- Comment #1 from David Nicholson dave_from_leeds@hotmail.com 2011-06-30 05:14:31 CDT --- Stars crashes when I start, I will try with a version of Wine compiled without freetype in the next few weeks to see if I can actually play!
I am using Ubuntu 11.04 and Stars! crashes when I use Gnome and Unity.
Dave.

--- Comment #2 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2013-09-18 20:10:43 CDT --- Works here with wine-1.7.2-78-gfb96cb5, 1.6 and 1.4. I do get a crash with 1.2 and 1.3.13 (all with freetype installed). The backtrace from 1.2 for me does show some font related stuff: Backtrace: =>0 0x7e7b9590 in libfontconfig.so.1 (+0x7590) (0x0088d1e8) 1 0x7e7ba63a FcConfigSubstituteWithPat+0x1b9() in libfontconfig.so.1 (0x0088d278) 2 0x7e7baba7 FcConfigSubstitute+0x26() in libfontconfig.so.1 (0x0088d298) 3 0x7e756892 X11DRV_XRender_SelectFont+0xaf1(physDev=0x7e215c90, hfont=0xffffffff) [/home/austin/wine-git/dlls/winex11.drv/xrender.c:937] in winex11 (0x0088d574)
but like I said, works in newer wine, so I think it's safe to mark as fixed.
