I also would like to note that setting

Mitigates the problem.  Stuttering is not as bad, and it never goes into the
loop of death.  I still receive the occasional dropout stuttering and hundreds
of DSOUND_MixOne and "DSOUND_MixInBuffer length" errors in the log.
