Summary: GURPS Character Assistant Data Update - gca4dataupdate crashes Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: davidsboogs@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=25910) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=25910) The console output (with backtrace) from an attempt to run gca4dataupdate.exe
I bought the GURPS Character Assistant from sjgames (.com) and discovered that: a) The download isn't a recent version b) Program and data updates are separate c) the program update worked but data did not (see attached) d) The updated program can't print without updated data (and printing is important, this is a program to make tabletop RPG character sheets)
The backtrace that I got looks pretty unhelpful to me, if there is anything I can do to provide more info, please let me know.

--- Comment #1 from David davidsboogs@gmail.com 2010-01-27 09:02:08 --- I forgot to mention that in order for the program to work it needs native oleaut32 and riched20 - but the updater crashes with or without those in place.

File bugs for that too please. One per problem, it's better to start with clean .wine.

00000008 (D) Z:\home\davidgro\GURPS Character Assistant 4\gca4dataupdate.exe
And make sure you put that file into Wine's c: drive and you are in that directory (~/.wine/drive_c by default).

--- Comment #4 from David davidsboogs@gmail.com 2010-01-27 23:27:51 --- Created an attachment (id=25914) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=25914) second backtrace - running from drive_c
File bugs for that too please. One per problem, it's better to start with clean
.wine.
I also prefer working one bug at a time - I mentioned the dlls in case they showed up in the backtrace so it would be clear they are not the problem. I'll file a bug about them if this one is fixed - otherwise I can't really use the program anyway. At least not until I get a windows licence :-(
And Yup, I tried a clean .wine (especially after the first failure, where I figured it may have messed things up)
I have attached a new trace after copying the file to ~/.wine/drive_c and running it from there.

--- Comment #5 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2011-09-04 12:42:29 CDT --- gca4dataupdate.exe runs fine in 1.3.27 in a clean prefix. It's an installer application.

--- Comment #6 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-03-02 17:33:38 CST --- Still working in 1.4-rc6. Since I'm the only tester I'll assume fixed, if anyone else can reproduce the bug can be reopened.
