Screenshot of the problem.

With Kaleidagraph 4.0 certain windows are drawn funny. The normally grey
background is drawn with whatever is behind the window when it is first opened.
Moving it around doesn't change the background. Nothing shows up with winedbg
or on the console, but I have little to no experience with wine debugging.

Attached is screenshot of the problem.

Please let me know what other debugging information might help!

Compiz is not enabled, and enabling or disabling compositing doesn't seem to
have an effect.

months. Is this still an issue in current (1.1.33 or newer) wine?

The problem still exists as shown in the screenshot. Nothing related in the
terminal.

This bug it's also reproduced with wine 1.3.24 with Fedora 15, using either
fallback mode or normal session with GNOME 3 (haven't tried with KDE or other
DE). I'm currently using the open source nvidia drivers (nouveau) don't know if
it affects anything at all.
