Bug #: 30783 Summary: DC Universe Online crashes on entering game world Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: omazhary@hotmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Dear all,
I've just recently installed DC universe online and it's working like a charm on my Windows OS. The problem is when I try running it from wine.
My laptop specs are: DELL Inspiron 1564 Intel Core i3 - 2.4 GHz 2GB RAM ATI Radeon with Catalyst up to 1.2.9 - I don't think this is the problem. Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) Wine 1.4
I'm running it in a virtual desktop of size 1280x720.
It loads perfectly fine (though it takes quite a large amount of time). I get to the character selection screen and select my character. As soon as I enter the game world and it starts to load all its elements, the crash reporter pops up and the game freezes.
Attached is the terminal output when running the game.
You'll notice that there's a repeating line in the file. It only appears on starting the game itself, not the launcher (the intro movies and character selection screen).
The last few lines appear when I exit the game due to it crashing.
Thank you very much for any help given.

I've trimmed the repeating lines so that the attachment could be uploaded.

It's not installed on a windows partition. I've installed it on an external HD whose partition I created using Ubuntu.
You should install it properly in wine, you may be missing registry entries, etc.
Also: err:winediag:AUDDRV_GetAudioEndpoint PulseAudio "default" -22 without handle_underrun. Audio may hang. Please upgrade to alsa_plugins >= 1.0.24 err:winediag:shader_generate_glsl_declarations The hardware does not support enough uniform components to run this shader, it may not render correctly.
hardware isn't so easy to upgrade (and should only affect the rendering), but that audio problem may be related..

--- Comment #5 from Omar Moustafa omazhary@hotmail.com 2012-05-29 14:12:05 CDT --- I don't think the audio is the problem, it works fine throughout the entire character selection process. Neither is the installation, as I run it on my windows OS the same way and it doesn't complain.
What I have noticed is that it takes a considerable amount of time to do anything network-related. When checking the files at the launcher, it takes twice the time taken as on windows. The same happens when entering the game world. Then, it crashes.

--- Comment #6 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for two years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.25 or newer) wine?
