Bug ID: 44314 Summary: FrameMaker 8: Installer aborts with the error "The wizard was interrupted..." Product: Wine Version: 3.0-rc5 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: ulrich.gemkow@ikr.uni-stuttgart.de Distribution: ---
The installer of FrameMaker 8 aborts with the message "The wizard was interrupted before Adobe FrameMaker v8 could be completely installed.
Wine is self-compiled in an Ubuntu 16.04 environment.
Please let me know whether the install log with +msi is helpful, it is rather large.

--- Comment #2 from Fabian Maurer dark.shadow4@web.de --- I'm not sure, but a +msi log can't harm either. Can't you zip and attach it? This should make it a lot smaller.
Also, is there a free trial?

Thanks for looking! Attached is the installer log with +msi. I aborted the installer after it showed the error message - after this the installer deletes the partly installed application.

--- Comment #4 from Ulrich Gemkow ulrich.gemkow@ikr.uni-stuttgart.de --- Sorry, regarding your second question: No, unfortunately there is no demo version available - it was in the past but I cannot find it anymore on Adobe website. But I can test whatever is required.

Hi, actually there is a trial I found here:
https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/detail.jsp?ftpID=4549
I do not know if it really shows the same behaviour as the installer you tested; I`ll just post some info here, but maybe the trial needs a separate bugreport.
1. The trial does not properly extract files. Only Data1.cab is extracted, and then the installer/extractor just vanishes
2. I manually did 7z x AdobeFrameMaker80_extract.exe , and that extracts all setup files properly apparently
3. Running setup.exe fails, the installer reports something went wrong. From a log it showed CreateProcess(`` msiexec /i Adobe\ FrameMaker\ 8.msi TRANSFORMS="1033.MST" SETUPEXEDIR="Z:\tmp"``) failed, i think that is the culprit (a guess)
I was able to install it using staging and running like
/opt/wine-staging/bin/wine msiexec /i Adobe\ FrameMaker\ 8.msi TRANSFORMS="1033.MST" SETUPEXEDIR="Z:\tmp" BTW Did the same for a second msi-file that was extracted ORIG_Adobe FrameMaker 8.msi; I don`t know why there are two msi files....

--- Comment #6 from Louis Lenders xerox.xerox2000x@gmail.com --- Well, actually forget about the previous comment 5,
In a fresh WINEPREFIX the trial installs just fine using current git (wine-3.8). I must have done something wrong/messed up things I guess.

Thanks for finding the download link and looking into this!
This download is the full version when a valid serial number is entered.
For this downloadable version the installer completes and Framemaker 8 installs fine.
But the CD with the retail version (which I cannot share due to the copyright) gives the same errors as shown in the appended log files and no files are installed.
So I am unsure what the correct status of this error is. Should it be closed?
Thanks again and best regards.

--- Comment #9 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
what is this ...
You reported a problem with retail CD version and a self-built Wine 3.8 Now you are closing the ticket with "trial works", disregarding the problem with retail? Nothing has been fixed. It's either:
* 'INVALID' -> your Wine build/prefix was broken (I've checked, it works with my Wine 3.8 release), or the retail installer media was corrupted * keep it open for retail if the problem still exists
There is another way to get download links:
https://helpx.adobe.com/framemaker/kb/framemaker-downloads.html
Use the links and substitute/guess for other versions.

So again: Please retest using the retail CD version and make sure you didn't get corrupted media or used incorrect mount options (UDF?).

--- Comment #10 from Ulrich Gemkow ulrich.gemkow@ikr.uni-stuttgart.de --- I confirm that the installer of the retail CD aborts as described in the original bug report. I checked that the media is not currupted and the mount is done with the correct options.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44314
--- Comment #11 from Ulrich Gemkow ulrich.gemkow@ikr.uni-stuttgart.de --- I digged more into this, some observations (but no solution):
- I installed an old Windows XP SP3 and the installer from the retail cd aborts with an error box complaining that the installer does require Windows XP SP2 (or newer Windows versions). It seems the programmer did not expect more SPs for Windows XP :-)
- I unpacked the downloadable installer (comment #5). The Installer (setup.exe) and the .msi-Files in this package (named "... with Windows XP SP3 fix") are different from the corresponding files on the retail cd
If someone gives a hint (maybe based on the attached logs) how to procede, I will try to do so. Thanks!
