--- Comment #1 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello,
please read https://wiki.winehq.org/Bugs on how to report bugs.
Imagine visiting a doctor, telling him "it hurts" - only these two words, without being more specific. Do you expect him to use some magic glass ball to figure out what's wrong with you?
* no meta-bugs "make app X to work" * don't put multiple problems in one ticket * don't create tickets without searching Bugzilla prior for existing bug reports if they are potentially duplicates (https://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=xenserver) * don't target different products/applications unless you know they share the same underlying technical problem * provide download link(s), version information (even if it applies to many versions -> provide at least *one* version to reproduce) * provide exact description of the problem, what doesn't work ...
"nothing works" is not an answer and will result in this ticket being closed as 'invalid'.
Regards

It does not work at all and is not even installed. What do you want me to write? Are you interested in troubleshooting at all? Install this software and see what happens. I do not have time to collect all the errors and logs.

Then please attach the installation logs (terminal output). If you don't have time to attach logs, do you really expect volunteers to do it for you?

--- Comment #11 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
lets use this ticket for the installer problem that almost nothing gets installed although the installer reports success.
Prerequisite:
* .NET Framework 3.5 (SP1) installation ('winetricks -q dotnet35sp1')
--- snip --- wine: Unimplemented function ntoskrnl.exe.IoUnregisterPlugPlayNotification called at address 0x7b43c40b (thread 009a), starting debugger... --- snip ---
Deserves another ticket, I'll create one.

--- Comment #12 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
I've created bug 45378 for the driver crash. You might attach your patch there for documentation/testing.
Anyway the driver won't be useful at all by design. The more serious issue is actually the installer. While revisiting older bugs mentioning vSphere 5.5 it was always the driver being targeted (avoiding crashes) but never the v5.x installer itself (v4.x seemed to work).
* bug 32186 * bug 36777

--- Comment #14 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
it looks like the installer has some awareness of Windows Eventlog service differences between Windows 2000/XP/2003 and newer Windows versions.
After 'winetricks -q dotnet35sp1' (requirement for installer), the WINEPREFIX WinVer is set to 'Windows Xp'. This causes a failure during installation of 'Hcmon' service.

--- quote --- The structure of the Eventlog key is as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services Eventlog Application Security System CustomLog
...
Sources This value is not used.
Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP/2000: Names of the applications, services, or groups of applications that write events to this log. This value should only be read and not altered. Adding an empty 'Sources' REG_MULTI_SZ key lets the installer succeed.

Alternatively reset the Windows version of the WINEPREFIX back to 'Windows 7' (default when creating new prefix). Anyway, the Windows XP is still a valid use-case and the fix is simple.
