After getting the 4.0.0.1 patch downloaded, installed and launched I login then it seams the game needs another patch so the in-game patch downloader screen comes up, the download % does not go up and after 1-2 sec wow crashes with the error:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000012d at address 0x732de4 (thread 0009)
Looking at the forums I see that Im not the only one affected by this. http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=9909

--- Comment #1 from Thomas Spear Speeddymon@gmail.com 2010-10-16 03:19:30 CDT --- I got the download screen tonight and no crash. Try with a clean ~/.wine. Near as I can tell, the game works fine other than the alt+tab bug and the non-wine bug with not being able to select a proper graphics mode when using opengl.

Tried it, but no luck there

I had the same problem; after the 4.0.0.1 patch WoW.exe crashed when trying to download the 4.0.1 patch. I upgraded both wine and linux kernel but it didn't help much although a fresh wine install changed the crash into an error message.
The workaround was to execute the Launcher.exe instead of WoW.exe to download the patch. After that WoW.exe started working as well.

--- Comment #5 from Danilo Riffo danriffo@gmail.com 2011-12-10 13:34:05 CST --- After a little tracking of the issue, I've noticed that when the "Launcher.exe" begins to download, it suddenly stops and pops an error window. I've found this is because of the launcher trying to access some kind of P2P transfer which makes some problems.
To solve this do as follows (I'm using a Spanish client so, sorry if texts aren't 100% accurate with the English one):
-> start Launcher.exe using wine, q4wine or whatever. -> wait until it pops the error window. -> on the launcher screen go to "Options" -> "download assistant preferences" and disable P2P sharing.
Now u will use the Launcher to update the game and then use WoW.exe to play.
Hope this helps ;)
