--- Comment #3 from Ben Shadwick benshadwick@gmail.com --- Confirmed in wine-1.7.8 under Kubuntu 13.10 x64. Log attached (ommitted the logs for launching Steam to focus on just launching Mystara).
A window is created with no title and nothing inside of it. The window cannot be closed except by killing ManaGame.exe, which is listed by the ps command as being defunct.

--- Comment #5 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for over a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.37 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.37 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).

Will I just be wasting my time if I make the effort to generate new logs?

The Ubuntu Wine PPA linked from winehq.org only has wine 1.7.34, so that is the best I can do for now unless you want to get those guys to roll a new build.

Wine is now 1.8-stable and 1.9-development. Could you upgrade and retest?

--- Comment #11 from Ben Shadwick benshadwick@gmail.com --- No, you don't get off that easy:
In 1.9.21 on Ubuntu MATE x64 16.10, I get only a black screen when launching the game. Steam overlay works, but the game itself never responds.
Also, 3 users have confirmed the issue. Can someone please advance the state from UNCONFIRMED, unless the states are meaningless?

There are about handfull of people who can change bug statuses. I don't know how important is for them to have bugs confirmed, but more important is to be active on bug reports. It's more likely to be fixed faster.
I took a closer look at this game, opened the link at url field and it does say dx11 game like Bela said before.
Since it's dx11 game it's really hard for me to say how much time it takes this to work out of box. Most likely some debug channel should be used when you run the game so it would show why this doesnt work yet. This bug is quite likely a dupe of some other dx11 feature bug. Since it's still in work in progress.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34288
--- Comment #13 from Ben Shadwick benshadwick@gmail.com --- Yeah it's definitely DX11.
If anyone has specific debug/configuration that they'd like me to try, let me know.

--- Comment #14 from Adrien Fernandes adrien_fernandes2@hotmail.com --- Yes, I have the black screen, the music of the game running in background, I can even press space bar and the game seems to take it because I hear a noise like if my selection is confirmed.
I couldn't imagine a game like that will use DX11 so I bought it without to check and I'm sad to see it not working for the moment :D

I think the current problem is different than the originally reported bug, because D3D11 in Wine improved a lot since 2013. I opened bug #42078 for the crash that I observed first with built-in d3dx. After installing native d3dx11_43, d3dcompiler_43 I received the black screen issue as reported here in comment #14.

--- Comment #18 from Adrien Fernandes adrien_fernandes2@hotmail.com --- I'm using Wine staging too but I don't have any splash screen at all, just black black black. Maybe the difference is that I am on staging 2.0-rc1 and not staging 2.0-rc3.
But when does the game crash ? It never crashes for me, I can continue to listen to the menu music as long as I want !

It is Wine-Staging 2.0-rc2 (rc3 hasn't released yet). I have native d3dcompiler_43, d3dx11_42 and d3dx11_43 installed. It turned out that I didn't have xaudio2 installed that's why the game crashed in the end. After 'winetricks xact_jun2010' the game loads the menu and I was able to start a new game. So this bug is probably a duplicate (and Staging contains the patch for it).

Please attach your terminal output (it may exceed the size limit accepted by bugzilla because d3d11 produces lots of output, compress it then): http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log
What video card and driver are you using? (Mine is Nvidia with the proprietary drivers). I tested with the demo because I don't have the full game. There is a chance the full version has some other problem.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34288
--- Comment #22 from Adrien Fernandes adrien_fernandes2@hotmail.com --- I'm now using 2.0-rc2 but the issue is still here.
I'm using GTX 765m with nouveau reclocked to be able to play big games (you know, the famous echo 0f > /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/pstate command when using nouveau).
I play the full game, not the demo but I can't believe the demo will work when the game won't. You MUST have something different.
I installed my WINEPREFIX in a folder so I made a new one, I installed DirectX from June 2010 BUT NOT WITH WINETRICKS. I downloaded it by myself and... That's all I do.
I'm set on Windows XP but I tried on 7 and 10 and still the same. I don't even know if Windows XP setting can run DirectX 11 stuff over Wine... Well, my game still run, never crashes and let me hear musics even with XP.
I also use a virtual desktop, I never use Wine without (also because I disable xrandr support when building but I hate when games are ran without the virtual desktop and change my screen resolution).
I don't know what else I can provide...

So it's something with the display driver. I switched Nvidia binary drivers to nouveau/mesa 13.0.2 and now I can reproduce the problem: the screen is black when the game gets to the menu.
From the attached log I grepped out the following two lines, because they are
too noisy: fixme:d3d11:d3d11_immediate_context_OMSetBlendState Per-rendertarget blend not implemented. fixme:d3d11:d3d11_immediate_context_OMSetBlendState Color mask > 3 not implemented.

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34288
--- Comment #24 from Adrien Fernandes adrien_fernandes2@hotmail.com --- So, finally, what can be the cause of that issue ? Missing features with nouveau driver ? Something between Wine and nouveau ? That is becoming more interesting

Did you also set the MaxVersionGL registry key?
Looking at the log, I have the impression that the game creates a feature level 9 d3d11 device which apparently doesn't quite work right. Can you try again with Nouveau and the registry key set? If you did that already, maybe attach a +tid,d3d11,d3d log (truncating it after a while is probably okay as a start.)

No, I didn't set MaxVersionGL, in fact I wasn't aware of that registry key until now. Now I tried the game with different values (30002, 40003) and what a surprise!, the game starts properly with nouveau as well. But this works only in Staging, in plain Wine 2.0-rc4 the screen remains black both with nouveau and Nvidia 375.xx.
The attached log was created with nouveau, Staging 2.0-rc3 and MaxVersionGL=40003 (hexa) setting.

--- Comment #27 from Adrien Fernandes adrien_fernandes2@hotmail.com --- Same, I tried setting MaxVersionGL to 4.2 and yes, the game now works on Wine Staging with nouveau driver.
