Summary: Direct3d graphics entirely broken for an application Product: Wine Version: CVS/GIT Platform: PC URL: http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=/demos/groups/farb- rausch/fr-030_candytron_party.zip&fileinfo OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: t.artem@mailcity.com
Created an attachment (id=13310) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13310) fr-030 candytron party.exe
No visuals.
It's a regression since it used to work (though graphics were broken - only one fourth of the screen was actually visible) in releases prior to 0.9.60 or earlier. I haven't tested it recently - so no ideas what patches caused a problem.

--- Comment #2 from Michal Seliga michal.seliga@visicom.sk 2008-05-29 20:27:50 --- for me it works in rc2 when i set offscreendrawingmode to fbo. with default setting (backbuffer) it works but doesn't draw screen correctly (left and bottom part of screen are damaged)
ubuntu 8.04, ati drivers 8.5, ati radeonhd2600xt

--- Comment #3 from Artem S. Tashkinov t.artem@mailcity.com 2008-10-05 11:43:08 --- In Wine 1.1.5 it doesn't show anything but if I restore screen resolution via `xrander -s 0` then I see a constantly flashing window with proper visuals.

--- Comment #4 from Artem S. Tashkinov t.artem@mailcity.com 2008-12-05 15:12:34 --- Austin, this demo has never worked properly in Wine, so regression testing is not really feasible.

--- Comment #5 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-12-05 15:22:12 --- According to your original report, it used to work somewhat, but now has no graphics. Those are two different bugs, and since this on IS about no graphics, a regression test would be feasible.

--- Comment #6 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-01-19 15:16:12 --- Removing deprecated CVS/GIT version tag. Please retest in current git. If the bug is still present in today's wine, but was not present in some earlier version of wine, please update version field to earliest known version of wine that had the bug. Thanks!

--- Comment #7 from Michal Seliga selmi@centrum.sk 2009-01-19 17:24:48 --- i am not setting version because i have no idea with which this bugreport started. but after testing with current version (wine-1.1.13) i have following results. i am using virtual desktop with size 1024x768. system is fully updated ubuntu 8.04, ati drivers 8.12, ati radeonhd2600xt
offscreenrenderingmode settings: with backbuffer it draws only top left corner of screen correctly + it sometimes flashes with fbo it works correctly + it sometimes flashes with pbuffer it crashes soon after beginning
pbuffer crash is probably because of ati drivers, i remember seeing some bugreports about it already

--- Comment #11 from Michael Stefaniuc mstefani@redhat.com 2010-06-15 15:05:09 --- Can you please retest if it is any better in wine-1.2rc3 or later? I have only an ATI GPU with open source drivers. Astonishing the demo runs with that for a good while it goes black after 1-2 minutes.

--- Comment #12 from Michal Seliga miso.seliga@gmail.com 2010-06-15 16:06:23 --- wine-1.2-rc3, Ati 4850, fglrx binary driver with deleted .wine i used winecfg to set audio to alsa and set virtual desktop 1024x768
demo seems to draw everything correctly, but it flashes terribly all the time. on the beginning it looks like flashing of black screen, later it flashes with images from previous effects
when i set registry to use backbuffer instead of fbo flashing remained and also rendering wasn't correct

I tested this with GeForce 8800GTS 190.32 binary driver on Ubuntu 8.04. I see the flashing/flickering of previous effects.
I also tested this with GeForce 9600GT 195.62 on Windows Vista. I see the exact same flashing/flickering of previous effects.
Running these side by side on Wine and Windows I can't tell an obvious difference. I do see from a youtube video that this program didn't originally have the artifacts but for whatever reason it does now.
Perhaps this should be marked invalid?

interesting observation. i tried it now with windows xp and ati radeon 4850. indeed there are occasional flashes. not so many as in wine (only one for every few seconds and in some parts there are none flashes at all) and they are much smaller (they come in strips about 1/10 of screen height). so in general it seems that now candytron behaves in wine same way as in windows, only does the bad things more often and in bigger doses...
only now i realized that attached version is party version. i downloaded version 1.01 final from here: http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=/demos/groups/farb-rausch/fr-030_candytro... and this works in windows as expected, no flashes at all. i will try in wine with this final version at evening and tell if it worked properly or not. this flashing seems to be bug of application

Under ATI graphics even the final version of this demo exhibit some rendering glitches, but flashes under Wine are gone completely, so I tend to believe that this bug has now become invalid and resolved :) (three years ago the original demo almost didn't work - now it only flashes, but it also flashes under Windows).
