Same problem with Wine 1.1.2?
Yep, just updated to 1.1.2. Still doesn't work.
On a side note, starcraft is now really clanky gfx wise. Sound is OK but the fraphics are really slow.
I had enabled opengl for it in the registry, does installing a new wine version require to enable it again?

I can confirm this bug about the window manager, but I had to set gdi32 in the registry because opengl displays nothing (on a side note).

--- Comment #5 from RD frail.knight@gmail.com 2009-08-02 08:12:53 --- I have experienced this issue was well. However, I noticed something different.
I ran wine with:
"Allow the windows manager to control the windows" - enabled "Emulate a virtual desktop" - disabled
I could not connect to Battle.net. I received the error stating it could not determine my version and that I might have a virus.
Then I ran wine with:
"Allow the windows manager to control the windows" - enabled "Emulate a virtual desktop" - enabled
Battle.net connected just fine, I was able to create an account, login, and even start a game online after navigating through some messed up battle.net screens.
For me it was not whether window manager had been enabled, but whether the desktop was emulated or the game allowed to run in fullscreen. Perhaps the window manager and fullscreen have some issues with each other?
Also noted that when I ran the game in fullscreen playing single player, the left side was cut off by a number of pixels (basically everything to the left of the mountains in the terrain button above the map). I could not see most of the mouse if it were moved as far left as possible. If I had a unit moved as far left as possible on the map, they would be mostly off screen as well. When I enabled the virtual desktop this did not occur. I don't mean to hijack this ticket. If I need to create a seperate ticket for that issue I will, but I just thought perhaps they could be related issues.

--- Comment #7 from co0lingFir3 co0lingFir3@googlemail.com 2010-08-16 03:11:58 --- I just installed wine 1.2 and this bug is still present, i.e. you have to disable "Allow the windows manager to control the windows" in order to be able to access the battle.net. Maybe this is unrelated but when I disable the option mentioned above Ubuntu's mouse pointer is always visible during the game (circling mouse pointer like when loading an app, which does not move at all), which is somewhat annoying. That is you have two mouse pointers inside the game, one of which you cannot use/move. This only occurs when I launch StarCraft from a .desktop file. Doing so from the terminal makes this problem disappear.

--- Comment #8 from hickop hickop@gmail.com 2012-03-25 10:37:52 CDT --- Using Wine 1.5.0 with Starcraft 1.16.1 Tried with both Openbox 3.5.0 and i3-wm 4.1.2
Battle.net works for me with Openbox and "Allow the windows manager to control the windows" enabled
With i3-wm and "Allow the windows manager to control the windows" enabled, running the game just show the loading screen but does not redraw the game menu. I need to disable "Allow the windows manager to control the windows" to make it work with i3-wm.
