Bug #: 31876 Summary: System Shock 2 (patch 2.4) Fails to Start. Product: Wine Version: 20050930 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3dx9 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dyrver.eriksson@gmail.com CC: wine-bugs@winehq.org Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 41952 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41952 backtrace without dll overrides
Installing the demo from the ttlg forum topic located here: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140085 trying to run it will only make it crash and generate a backtrace, here's the initial crash report without any overrides. Deps added for second backtrace unless identical: vcrun2008, d3dx9_43. Maybe openal as well.

Ignore my last question. I see now that it's the game demo.
A fair warning, nobody but the creator(s) know where this patch originated from, it's been my only reason to use Windows in over three years and I wish I could get a good trace to get it running. :p Patch could be made by hackers, TTLG devs or even SHODAN herself for all I know. Yet, no trace of any SHODAN, trojan or virus. Backtrace with overrides gave me nothing further to go on.

--- Comment #4 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-10-04 21:06:59 CDT --- I can't reproduce the crash here in wine-git. The game starts the menu and I can select the New Game option. Then there is an infinite loop of:
err:d3d:wined3d_event_query_test Event query created despite lack of GL support err:d3d:wined3d_event_query_ops_get_data The GL event query failed, returning D3DERR_INVALIDCALL

--- Comment #5 from Dyrver E dyrver.eriksson@gmail.com 2012-10-05 11:00:35 CDT --- Close this bug as is, it's unrelated to any specific fault of Wine by itself, it's more a Path allocation bug (unable to find dll?). Starting the game in terminal from where the executable resides (cd .wine/drive_c/Sshock2/) and it runs successfully without a hitch. Thank you for the help anyway.

--- Comment #6 from Dyrver E dyrver.eriksson@gmail.com 2012-10-06 06:21:57 CDT --- Pathfinding issue, you can start it if you enter the directory the executable resides in. Sorry!
