--- Comment #3 from Samu Voutilainen samu.voutilainen@kolumbus.fi 2011-11-13 12:51:29 CST --- Does not work here either. Gentoo, 64 bit, OSS4. Tried with both wineoss.drv and winealsa.drv.
Installing xact didn’t help.
There is some kind of ”low” constant noise which may imply that it’s actually trying to play the audio, but failing to decode it correctly for some reason. I think I’ve heard that before too, but then Wine had proper audio configuration thingys I were able to fix it.

--- Comment #7 from TcShadowWalker@gmail.com 2011-11-13 17:14:26 CST --- I had the problem as well, there is an easy way to fix it. Just install the DirectX version from the Skyrim directory.
wine DirectX10/DXSETUP.exe
It will take a moment, but the sound should be enabled afterwards.
Enjoy the game :)

And again...
I guess it is something completely unrelated, Skyrim just is making it much higher than normal level. (clearly hearable, normally can’t exactly recognize behind any sound or hear at all)
For a record, when I switch to another window (in KDE), there is some really slow noise that gets louder for a period of changing. Almost like the noise from microphone. But I don’t have any microphone plugged in. Also completely muting out OSS4’s switches doesn’t help the problem.

--- Comment #11 from Anton Yarth thunder_8888@mail.ru 2011-11-16 19:35:18 CST --- Skyrim frequently crashes for me, until i delete logo video. In win7 mode sound plays with noise on any freq and other sound settings, but in XP mode sound was normal. Looks like X3DAudio ignore some settings in Win7, or works incorrect

--- Comment #12 from Zhenya Zenitur@yandex.ru 2011-11-26 11:22:34 CST --- Wine 1.3.34. All works. No GStreamer, no PulseAudio, and OpenAL was compiled by myself from source code (libopenal.so.1 from my Linux distribution works bad with Wine and UT2004). "Windows 7" mode. And I see video intro. But quality of sound is bad for all game. It is low volume and distortion when maximum volume in the game settings. 2 or 3 error strings of ALSA PCM C-code file in console.

--- Comment #14 from Dan d.lanza38@gmail.com 2012-02-11 21:29:40 CST --- I'm currently able to run the game, but no sound, none at all. Installed it via steam.
I'm running wine in windows 7 mode with alsa as the choosen driver. I'm using pulseaudio I have d3dx9_42, vcrun2008, and xact installed via winetricks. I also executed the line "wine DirectX10/DXSETUP.exe" from within the skyrim directory. ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/skyrim" and the gui end of it tells me everything installs fine, but I get this in the command line, "err:setupapi:do_file_copyW Unsupported style(s) 0x144" and it just repeats about 30 times then returns to the prompt and I am able to go about my business.
I did rename "BGS_Logo.bik" "BGS_Logo(renamed).bik"
If this is something else I'm sorry for posting here, but help would be great.

I just upgraded to wine 1.3 and skyrim works very well. I think it broke other programs I have, but I'll look at that later. However, I still can't run it on anything but low settings even though I have a 3.1 ghz 6 core processor and 16 gb of ram, and a fairly good gpu (can't remember the model, I'm at work). That is not part of this bug however so don't respond about that issue on here.
On a side note it looks fairly good on low settings so I'm content.

--- Comment #17 from William J May may.11b@runbox.com 2013-02-02 02:01:50 CST --- Did not need xact, swapping modes worked, left video alone. Did notice:
ALSA lib dlmisc.c:236:(snd1_dlobj_cache_get) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib32/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so
File does exist and is readable. No problems with sound outside of Wine, or with winecfg sound test. Could this apply to other Steam games? Steam currently detects Wine. Could also be Pulseaudio interaction???
Arch Linux x86_64 Wine 1.5.22 no patches Pulseaudio 3.0 libALSA 32/64 1.0.26 kernel 3.8

--- Comment #26 from Storm hewanci@gmail.com --- Don't say that if it doesn't work in either XP or Win 7 then it's "not this bug". You DO NOT know.
My Skyrim sound always worked, until few weeks ago when I last played, now I played again and have the exact same thing happening: Intro video does have sou8nd, but nothing afterwards. Reinstalling DirectX did not help. I tried several other things suggested all over the net, nothing forks. And it used to work! I run it in XP mode as always, if I set it to Win 7 mode, then Steam and Skyrim both produce tons of errors.
So if anyone have any suggestions or relevant info, let me know.

Yes, we do. This bug was one that it worked in XP but not 7. If it doesn't work in either one, it's a different issue.

File a new bug. Which you already did (bug 39517). Don't post in old/different bugs (especially that are closed).
