Summary: Trackmania Nations Forever graphics test does not work Product: Wine Version: 1.3.0 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: diafero@arcor.de
On first startup, Trackmania Nations Forever (free download at http://www.trackmania.com/index.php?rub=downloads ) usually makes a benchmark to set useful graphics detail settings. However, this does not work on wine: Instead of a benchmark, the actual full game is started. When I quit, the launcher tells me that the graphics data could not be found. I then get the normal launcher, and can start the game again. This happens each time I start the launcher.
Trackmania United Forever has the same issue.

--- Comment #1 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2011-03-06 00:32:58 CST --- Created an attachment (id=33547) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=33547) plain terminal output
The same happens with Wine-1.3.15 when I start the launcher of TM United Forever: the game informs me that my gfx card performance has not been found and it will perform a quick benchmark. The benchmark window shows only black. After the test the following message is shown: 'Could not retrieve your graphics device performance. Automatic graphics quality may be inadequate.'
Interestingly, if I start the launcher with winedebug enabled, e.g. WINEDEBUG=+d3d,+d3d9, the test should finish correctly and the game successfully writes a file named GfxDevicePerfs.txt in the Config directory. On the next launch it doesn't require the benchmark any more.

--- Comment #2 from diafero@arcor.de 2011-03-11 11:46:51 CST --- Indeed, the error message is gone after starting wine with those debug options once. The behavior was still not correct though: Usually, the game should just start, play a benchmark, and quit automatically. Instead, the game was started as usual, and I had to choose a user and then quit manually.

--- Comment #10 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- After a cursory test, this bug looks like fixed for quite some time (1.9.24, 2.0.5, 3.x are all good). The warning message is gone and the benchmark is performed correctly. Could anyone please retest and confirm the fixed state?
