I downloaded updates from http://area.xrmb2.net/area?DownloadID=ja2113-1080en
and then from http://81.169.133.124/~lalien/release/New_exes/ and installed.

Game crashes with this output to terminal.

Try setting your X server to run at 16 bpp?

My X server is set to 16 bpp. I installed the original version of JA2 (1.03)
and upgraded to 1.07. Works fine here.
