Summary: swkotor crashes on videos Product: Wine Version: 1.1.41 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: kevinperson@topicbox.com
Created an attachment (id=27216) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=27216) console output with dump
swkotor [Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic] freezes with a black screen when I run it without telling the game "disable movies."
When I switch away, it sometimes produces that dialog telling me something has gone horribly wrong.
I'm currently using Ubuntu 10.04 Beta (Lucid Lynx) with nvidia drivers.
The videos are in Bink format, for whatever that's worth.
console output attached.

--- Comment #1 from Plague 4plague@gmail.com 2010-04-05 07:15:01 --- try to run swkotor.exe directly, there is gameoverlayrenderer involved, which is a **** thing. If it does not work (because it wants steam), run steam, then ername gameoverlayrenderer.dll and run kotor. Before starting steam again rename the dll back, otherwise it will be redownloaded.

--- Comment #2 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2010-04-05 08:56:59 --- You can disable it from steam (steam community in-game).

--- Comment #3 from Plague 4plague@gmail.com 2010-04-05 09:42:19 --- Not really, at least for Audiosurf this does not work, for CS:S it does work...

started steam, mv'd GameOverlayRenderer.dll out of the way, launched swkotor from the Steam menu, and it still doesn't go.
also tried toggling that community in-game notification option in Steam's settings.
log attached, although it looks mostly the same to my eye, but without gameoverlayrenderer in the module list.

--- Comment #5 from Plague 4plague@gmail.com 2010-04-05 13:15:03 --- starting swkotor directly has failed or you just did not test that?

starting swkotor directly has failed or you just did not test that?
that fails immediately with an error dialog "Application load error P:0000065434"

--- Comment #7 from Plague 4plague@gmail.com 2010-08-18 11:50:03 --- Sorry for the delay I don't remember having email about it.
I used widescreen patch and run the fixed exe, which still works. Look here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/UniWS

--- Comment #8 from Goblinstomper@gmail.com 2012-07-28 12:40:54 CDT --- Movies seem to be working (movies shown when launching the game certainly works) in both windowed mode and full screen regardless if community overlay is enabled or not in wine 1.5.9 without the use of any wide-screen patches. It would appear this bug has been resolved since it was reported.

--- Comment #9 from Plague 4plague@gmail.com 2012-07-28 12:44:01 CDT --- Without the use of widescreen patch it works for me in 1.5.6 too. The thing is widescreen patch is really a must these days. The patch does not touch videos, but there is a resolution switch before and after them that somehow makes problems apparently.

--- Comment #10 from Goblinstomper@gmail.com 2012-07-29 14:25:35 CDT --- If we are still talking about the steam version (as indicated by the earlier references to overlay.dll) for which you have to patch a cracked .exe in order to use wide screen resolutions, I have that working as well.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series OpenGL version string: 4.2.11733 Compatibility Profile Context
That said, I'm uncertain wine developers would take interest considering the amount of hacks involved, if it wasn't.
